See? It’s not all bad…
People of North London, even in these frightening times where bendy buses rule the roads, and children are more likely to be found shopping in the kitchen part of B&Q than adults, you should all still find time to muster a smile. After all, with another Premier League season looming on the horizon like a massive football version of the sun, it looks like it could be Arsenal’s year. That’s half of you happy, then.
Our brothers and uncles over at Chickendinner have compiled eight reasons to be hopeful:
1. Arsenal’s points tally and goal difference last season (83, 43) would have been enough to win the title in six of the past thirteen seasons.
2. The last time Arsenal finished third in the Premier League was in 1996-97. The next year they won the double.
3. On all three occasions that Arsenal have won the Premier League, Man United had been the reigning champions.
4. The only two sides in Premier League history to have won the title when United were the holders were Arsenal and Blackburn. Chelsea and Liverpool have never managed it.
5. The last time a team failed to retain the title (Chelsea, 2006-07) the team who conquered them - Man United - had scored 83 points the season before.
6. Bad news for Man United: Only four teams have ever won the league three times in a row - Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United - and nobody has ever done it on two separate occasions.
7. Bad news for Chelsea: In just one of the previous twenty-two seasons has a team with a new manager won the title.
8. Bad news for Liverpool: The Premier League champions have always been one of the teams that finished in the top three the season before.

Yep, looks like some serious naval gazing has taken place. Clearly there are sorry for upsetting us sensitive, soft-spoken Londonites.

Agreed - spoiler. History dictates that Arsenal are DEFINATELY going to win the league this year. Everything looks to be in place - No players out. Lots of players in. No wantaways. Strong english core. Sturdy players who aren’t made of injury prone balsa wood. Dependable captain who rallies the troops and isn’t prone to on pitch temper tantrums. Classy manager who doesn’t crack up in a myopic rage at the first sign of trouble. Arsenal fans must be quietly confident.

If Arsenal indeed wins the title of this season’s Premier League then I will not be that much surprised. Who knew Henry when he started playing for Arsenal? Arsene Wenger just needs to transform one or two players to the level of Henry this time.

I’m very angry Arsenal fan and there is one thing missing from your reasoning, Roman abramovich and the american billionaires. The PL is not what it used to and your history lesson means nothing. WE NEED OUR OWN BILLIONAIR!!!!
