Can anyone stop Darren Bent’s scoring rampage?

The Spoiler

Celtic better watch out tomorrow night

Yesterday, The Spoiler boldly claimed that Darren Bent wouldn’t reach a goal tally in the double digits next season, as we presumed Juande Ramos would find someone to push him out of the regular team. The former Charlton top scorer, however, has managed to net seven goals in friendlies against Norwich (see above) and Leyton Orient this week, and it’s looking likely that he will be getting more of a run out when the season proper begins.

Have we and the mainstream media been too hasty in labelling him a flop? Will Bent silence his critics and stick away 20+ goals in Robbie Keane’s absence in the new term? Or will he still prove expensive and not particularly good in 2008/09?

Let us know what you think with a comment below…

He looks sharper than ever. 3 great finishes last night to add to the well taken strikes on Monday. With the creative midfield we’re building and with Gio playing just off the front man, Benty could well be the clinical-preditorial striker that this system needs.

Giving him the 10 shirt last night was a great touch by the management. Keep it up Darren!

I said at the end of last season if he was given a proper run over the course of a season he’d get 20 goals. Everyone laughed - but suddenly that’s changed. Darren Bent was the top English scorer in the Premiership for two seasons. Playing for Charlton. I’ll repeat that last bit - PLAYING FOR CHARLTON. He didn’t become a terrible player overnight, it wasn’t his fault we paid over the odds by about £10m. Ramos’ new 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1, however you want to look at it) formation will suit Bent perfectly, and providing the board don’t do anything silly and flog him, he’ll hit 10 goals by Christmas.

i have kept saying all along, Benty is full of goals. Benty is going to score a minimum of 25 in the Premier League this season. Our current squad and style of play and formation are the tonic for Benty. The lone striker role is best suited for Darren. His goals per minute ratio is better than any of the other strikers we have had since Benty came over from Charlton!!

Research is clearly not your strong point. Bent had the same goals per minutes played ratio as Keane and stropatov last season. It’s a bit unreasonable to label someone a flop it they don’t play.

Let’s all offer stakes and force the big mouthed Spoiler to put up or look like the total wimp he probably is. Who’s up forr it?/

As a Charlton fan who saw him in his pomp for us I have to say his current form is not a surprise at all.. The boy has got pace to burn, knows where the goal is, has two great feet, is strong in the air, hold the ball up well and is intelligent in his link-up play. Watch his movement off the ball too, very astute. Quite simply, the boy is a class act.

I hope he bangs them in for fun for Spurs next season and gets himself back in the England reckoning (yes, a Charlton fan hoping Spurs do well!) as he has much more to offer than Crouch, Defoe or Walcott.
