Spurs, it’s your year… again

Might Ramos be the new messiah?

Spurs are a bit like that dream girl you always wanted to have sex with. She looks amazing, ticks all the right boxes, but when your boat finally comes in and you get the chance to actually do it, she’s rubbish. It’s a bloody shame. And yet, every August, when she struts back into your life wearing a fierce new bikini and beckoning you over, you decide that this year she might be less lurching and badly coordinated in bed. But guess what? She never is.

Until, of course, this year. We’re going to put the metaphor down now, because it’s just getting stupid - but yes, the sexy woman is Spurs, and finally they have the look of a team that could do some serious damage - both in bed, and on the pitch.

Last year, everyone was harping on about the four big strikers (Keane, Berbs, Defoe, Bent), but that was always going to present problems. Four decent strikers can’t squeeze into two slots, hence Defoe’s sharp exit, and Bent’s loss of confidence.

But this year, Ramos seems to be buying intelligently, rather than clogging up certain areas to create “competition”. Instead, he has snared fantastic attacking midfield players - Bentley, Modric, Dos Santos - to keep the heat off his injury-prone defence. And even Bent has started slotting them in for fun up front. Of course, every year seems like a false dawn at White Hart Lane, but should they tie down the Arshavin deal, and manage to keep hold of Berbatov, all that big talk of being the biggest team in North London might yet start to ring true.

Or, have we just fallen for another buxom lass from Seven Sisters with phenomenal bosoms?

See Arshavin in action after the break…

LOL!! I don’t think that I’ve ever heard the perennial Spurs pre-season optimism summed up so well or so amusingly. We do have reason to be hopeful this year, but I’m still not counting my chickens. The big worry is that without a decent defensive midfielder and centre back cover, it’s going to be the same old beautiful going forwards, horrifying defending.

every people say the same about us, you know what one year it will OUR season and our time to break into the top 4 and get champions league football and we will either replace arsenal or liverpool, so either the bitter rivals or keane’s new lot

I’m starting to wonder if we’re going to play like Brazil?

Basically, the way it works is that if you have enough up front, noone can get near your defence…..

I hope its our year, but has any of the top 4 got weaker? Liverpool are stronger now with Keane, so I doubt we will replace them. United and Chelski are a mile in front of Liverpool so they would need a Tottenham size exodus for us to catch them. The only team likely to be caught (on paper) are Arsenal, and Wenger has a talent to turn a team of turnips into challengers. I think Spurs may make a huge step, but if we get 4th I will eat my hat.

One good thing, if we do get 4th, which ever (Arsenal or Liverpool) we replace will severly suffer finacially to the point of near collapse.

Spurs stand no chance of getting 4th - best realign your thinking to a UEFA Cup place. With that bunch of strangers running about bumping into each other for the frust two months, you’ll be 12 points off the pace by October

Spurs kow we won’t finish 4tgh… it’s just journalists writing that we will… this is what gets us stick every year,… Of course I hope we finish up there, of course we have a ‘chance’ but then so do Villa and everton… then there’s the teams that are already there - Arsenal and liverpool… we have a chance, but not a very good one./…

i think spurs will be in financial ruin if they dont do anything again, they have spent more than everyone apart from chelsea, and season in and out they have been shit, levy will stop flogging the dead horse soon

Well done Spurs for trying - I feel they should be given an extra point just for keeping the transfer market lively. But for all their frenzied shopping, I feel their destiny is settled: every season for Tottenham will be a transitional season. By January we’ll be listening to Ramos explain why this year is all about laying foundations, and that if the board can find him some money to make the team competitive, Spurs will be in great shape to challenge for something next time round. It is written.
