Manchester Utd star remains aloof in Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo in Lisbon

Cristiano Ronaldo is supposed to have his post-summer holiday showdown with Sir Alex Ferguson in Manchester today, and the British press seem to be assuming that the player will acquiesce to his club’s demands and play for another season. The Spanish tabloids, however, are painting a different story.

According to Marca, he will not return to Manchester for the dreaded hairdryer session. Yesterday, they found the tricky winger in a clinic in Lisbon, where he refused to comment and risk the ‘ongoing negotiations’ between Real Madrid and Manchester Utd.

Reportedly, Ronny will soon return to Amsterdam for another ankle consultation, after which he will ‘return to his home and wait’. Marca do not seem too concerned with the trifling detail that his ‘home’ is in Manchester.

UPDATE: Some media outlets are claiming Ronaldo isn’t due back today, but rather later in the week.

Trusting Marca = trusting modern footballers not to use the cliche “to be fair…”

This kind of behavious doesn’t surprise me. Still, I can sympathise with Alex for having to put up with such (an admittedly talented) oik.

Our lads at Liverpool are considerably classier. Mind you, John Arne Riise’s mum is pretty scary. She’s upset we let her boy go parade his delicate complexion in the Italian sunshine.

I think the biggest and ugliest problem in this whole sorry affair is not that Ronaldo wants to leave. It’s the way he has gone about it.
If he truely wants to play for Real Madrid, a club he says he has admired since he was young. Then as a Man Utd fan, I’d wish him all the best of luck in the world for La Liga.

But what annoy’s me, and I’m sure most United fans, is the fact that he hasn’t come out and said what he wants to do. Everything he apparantly says comes out of agents, friends or family.
The other problem is that if he finally does come out, admire he doesn’t see his future at Old Trafford, and that he wants to go to Madrid. Why on earth has he left it this late in the summer? That sheer lack of respect for United is astounding. No the club didn’t make him the great player if he today, but they damn sure helped him along the way. And if he leaves he’ll leave one major hole to fill, and with only a few weeks untill the transfer window is closed, United will stuck with a whole lot of money and no way to spend it.

Just to clarify if i had my way? I’d sell him to Madrid for as much as possible, and use the money to buy Messi, hopefully the problems caused by the olympics and Barcalona would make this extremely unlikely transfer possible.

No. The biggest and ugliest problem is Gary Nevilles face.

    To be fair.
