Stroppy striker still keen on ‘dream move’
Following Tottenham’s uninspired loss in the north east at the weekend, Dimitar Berbatov has employed a Cristiano Ronaldo-style media campaign to earn himself a move to the current European Champions: ‘No one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream,’ he said.
Having a striker who clearly isn’t 100 per cent committed to the cause will be troubling in the eyes of many Spurs fans, yet losing another striker (and relying on the likes of Darren Bent) could be highly damaging for the campaign of a team with fifth place aspirations.
So, should Ramos and co free the stroppy striker from his increasingly untenable position before the transfer window closes in a fortnight (assuming that Fergie still wants him, that is), or should they make him ride it out the remaining two years of his four year contract at White Hart Lane? Votes and comments below, please…

I think we should definitely let him go.

NO. Not until we have two replacements. We’ve been after two striker before the Euros, plus we need a defensive midfielder and defender. This has been clear as mud for ages, as we know Berbie wants to go, Ledlers/Woodgae are injury prone and Z don’t cut the mustard.

He has a binding contract doesn’t he!
If we keep him, he has to play well, to stay in the shop window.
If we sell, it’s because we want to ( for the cash).

Dont sell him unless we get the 2 replacements in place, plus go and tel Man U poachers that because they have disrupted our season and waited this long trying to force us to panic sell we now want more money! £38m please fergie, unlucky on your draw with newcastle where you lacked the firepower berba would have given you to wi the game!

If we let him go we can kiss goodbye to any chance of a top 6 finish. Also we will confirm that we are just a feeder club for the big boys. We had two world class players and we just sold one of them. Last season we had a crap defence and a great attack and we came 12th - think what could happen with a crap defence and a crap attack. Sat showed exactly how little we could create without Berba - and M’boro are not world beaters!

There is a great deal of misunderstanding about this situation.
There is, as here, an obsession as to whether Spurs should ‘let him go’.
The real (related) questions are: 1 Should Spurs be prepared to sell him for less than their very clearly articulated asking price? Should United be prepared to pay a fair asking price for him?; 3 Is the asking price Spurs are asking a fair one?; 4 is the price United are offering a fair one?
1 - Why on earth should Spurs be prepared to sell a quality player for less than what they consider to be a fair asking price.
2 - Only brinkmanship on the part of any manager (here, Alex Ferguson) prevents the paying of a fair asking price.
3 - If reports are to be believed Spurs are asking for 30 million. In today’s market that seems reasonably fair to me.
4 - United seem prepared to pay 32 million for Tevez. By direct comparison, i cannot believe that Tevez is a 3rd again a better player than Berbatov - who is in his prime.
It is only the thrall ManUre have over the minds of people like you that make you even ask the question.
Should Spurs be allowed to buy Arshavin for 2 million? Should Villa reduce their asking price for Barry to, say, 8 million, just to accomodate Liverpool? Should United finally allow Ronaldo to leave (this is the second time fergy has had to threaten and bully and beg the guy to stay) - after all his situation is no different to Berbatov’s and Real were prepared to pay some serious money.
And Berbatov should have kept his mouth shup - he has seriously weakened Spurs’s bargaining position and should be fined for it.
Just for the record - when the Ronaldo saga was in full swing (a situation analagous to the Berbatov situation) United were widely reported to have threatened to make him sit in the stands for the rest of his contract, with the full backing of the Glazers - and were widely applauded for it. Why should it be any different for Spurs?

Tottally agree with sean! quality comment! Although if we do let him go now though we should be asking more than our original asking price due to the disruption it will cause to our season.
