Frank Lampard and Deco

Chelsea went about dismantling Portsmouth in spectacular style last weekend and Big Phil will now be charged with the task of maintaining treacherously high standards. Chelsea may not have it all their own way at Wigan, but should leave a half-empty JJB with a full complement of points. Here’s why…

1. Wigan have failed in six attempts to secure a Premier League victory over Chelsea, losing five and drawing the other.

2. In four of the last five seasons, Chelsea have won their opening two league fixtures. Chelsea beat Portsmouth 4-0 on the opening day this year.

3. Chelsea have taken maximum points from each of their three previous trips to the JJB, scoring six times in the process.

4. Wigan have failed to score in four of their six Premier League contests with Chelsea.

5. Wigan have failed to record a single win against any of the top four in their last three league campaigns. They have lost twenty one and drawn three of their twenty four meetings with the top flight’s elite.

6. Chelsea had an unrivalled away record in the Premier League last season, winning thirteen and drawing three of their nineteen contests.

Some more terribly useful betting information…

» Chelsea have scored the opening goal in all six of their league meetings with Wigan, three of which have been scored by Frank Lampard.

» Four of the six Premier League meetings between the sides have seen fewer than 2.5 goals.

» Three of the sides’ six league encounters have been goalless at the interval.

good article funny how you didn’t mention the fact that when wigan drew with chelsea last year the stopped them from winning the title

Given your comment above on a “half empty “JJB , what price will you give me on there being more than 13,000 in the stadium on Sunday ?

Bob, funny it never mentioned the fact that had we won that game we still would have lost the title on goal difference, one draw with wigan doesn’t make or break a season you moron.
