Arsene Wenger and Rafa Benitez like to party

Former England manager and self-ordained Dutchman Schteve McClaren hasn’t had much luck in North London during his career, and that won’t change tonight. Meanwhile, the luck that has seen Liverpool claim maximum points in the league will continue when Standard Liege visit Anfield.

Read on for reasons why Arsene and Rafa will be celebrating tonight…

Five reasons why Arsenal will beat FC Twente

1. Last season Arsenal won the away leg of their Champions League qualifier with Sparta Prague 2-0 but they didn’t ease up in the second - winning 3-0.

2. Steve McClaren’s last trip to the Emirates while Middlesbrough boss saw him suffer a humiliating 7-0 defeat.

3. Arsenal have lost just one of their 56 home games played at the Emirates Stadium and have never lost a European game there.

4. The Gunners’ last competitive home defeat to a foreign side came way back in September 2003 when they lost 3-0 to Inter Milan.

5. Steve McClaren went away to Arsenal with Middlesbrough seven times. On six of those occasions he lost, with Arsenal averaging 3.43 goals a game.
Five reasons Liverpool will get lucky again

1. Liverpool have won the game that has followed their last seven meetings with Middlesbrough.

2. Rafa Benitez’s side have lost just two of their last 14 Champions League games held at Anfield.

3. Liverpool won their home game at this stage of the competition in each of the past two seasons.

4. Standard Liege drew the first leg of their last Champions League qualifier - against Steaua Bucharest two years ago - only to lose the second.

5. It’s been three years since a Belgian side last engineered their way through the qualification stages. Three teams have failed since.

Don’t ask me why but on our current form it feels like a banana skin waiting to slip on.
