Serbian risks wrath of “joyless” fans with controversial comments

Nemanja Vidic

A few months ago, Ukrainian fashionista Andriy Voronin thought it appropriate to criticise his charmed life in the north of England, and now Nemanja Vidic has jumped on the anti-UK bandwagon via comments in Russian magazine Football Weekly.

The Manchester Utd centre-back, who comes from a landlocked country with a tumultuous political past and an average wage three times lower then that in Britain, has criticised the weather and “joyless” people over here:

‘I will never stay to live in England, that’s for sure.’

‘The climate here is something special! You get only a brief glimpse of sunlight before it’s all cloudy again. The winters are mild but in summer the temperatures seldom go higher than 20 degrees Celsius. And it rains, rains, rains!

‘In England they say that Manchester is the city of rain. Its main attraction is considered to be a timetable at the railway station where trains leave for other, less rainy cities!’

Despite having his foot jammed firmly in his mouth, the Serbian continued to let us know what a blast it is living in southeastern Europe and Russia:

‘In Russia and Serbia the people’s way of life is similar. In England it’s totally different. Here they just don’t have time to feel the joy of life. Throughout the week they all work so hard. They only talk to people at lunch break. Then in the evening they come home and watch the telly so they can get up early for work the next day.

Vidic finished his interview by touting a possible move to Spain, adding that he would have no reason to “complain about the weather there”.

If this is all too hard to take in, allow The Spoiler to summarise: a man who survived Moscow’s bitter winter for two seasons and who works for just a couple of hours per day has complained about a little bit of drizzle and a strong work ethic.

Personally I think he’s right about Manchester, it does rain all the time, it is smelly and the people are miserable on a par with Cockneys. I worked ther for some years so am talking from experience. He should move to Liverpool at least we have the sea air to blow away any unpleasant smells.

He does actually have a point though. People in the UK are generally miserable, slaves to their occupation, and the weather is crap … he didn’t grow up supporting United, so who would blame him waning to join a club in Spain or at least moving to a more pleasant city on the UK coast … I love United with my heart, but there is no denying that it is a bit of a shit hole :(

Whenever Mancunians quote their average rainfall they always cite Manchester airport statistics instead of Manchester city centre statistics. There is a difference - the airport is in a warm Cheshire micro-climate at an altitude almost 400 feet lower than its eponymous city. Let’s face it EVEN the Queen has been overheard to diss SCUMchester!!
