Shouty people in crowd make man sad…
We’re used to seeing Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle fans sharpening their knives, taking their tops off and turning on their managers at the drop of a hat, but West Ham fans always seemed a bit more tolerant.
Their conga when 3-0 down at Manchester City showed a decent sense of humour and lack of ego, but last night you’d be forgiven for thinking they were cheering on Macclesfield, such was the venom they directed at their own players and manager.
After all the rumours of the board selling players behind Alan Curbishley’s back and trying to force him to resign, the West Ham manager needed the fans to get behind him, but, instead, the moment Macclesfield took the lead, the crowd morphed into an angry mob, yelling to the man who kept them in the Premier League and guided them to the top half that he was “getting sacked in the morning”.
Is he really worthy of the sack just three games into the season, especially given that they’ve won two of them?
“The fans are brilliant when they are behind us, but they have to realise the effect it has when they are not behind us,” said a poignant Curbishley after the game.
So are West Ham’s fans soaring to the top of the fickleness table? Or what? Let us know with a comment below.

its because our club has higher ambition to a club like west ham… when was the last time they were in europe??
fighting relegation every season would not be acceptable at spurs, it seems it is the norm now for the spammers!!! ahhaha

Brand of football poor, availability of players poor, investment poor; all leading to poor results which is where the fans frustration springs from. We have been sold this 5 year plan to make West Ham in to a top Premiership side challenging for the Champions league and there are no signs that the Board are actually following through on this. The amount of investment in the team has been very low and not keeping pace with our competition,(forget the MUs and Chelseas) and we are at the moment more likely to be trying to avoid relegation than hit 7th spot, which is this year’s expectation from the chairman. If that expectation is true then he has 4-5 days to show it and bring in some first team players to strenghten the team or we are in trouble. We’re not fickle we have at the moment been sold a lie. I do think that AC is responsible for the brand of football we are playing at that must be improved.

I was playing last night, and I can confirm that west ham fans are indeed cunts
5 Upminster Iron // Aug 28, 2008 at 9:49 am
Curbs isn’t entirely responsible if we can’t play enterprising football. He isn’t allowed to bring anyone in and those that are here could be sold over his head so he’s just making use of what he’s got.
I don’t buy all the crap about him being so negative. Rather than bring on Parker he gave the more attacking Hines his debut and all three changes were positive and paid off. We definitely attacked Wigan from the start last week too - unfortunately running out of steam too quickly but the intent was there.
You’ve said it yourself: we are at the moment more likely to be trying to avoid relegation than hit 7th spot
And if we are in a relegation battle then there’s no better man for the job, nobody we could attract who is better at getting the best out of what he’s got than Curbishley.
6 Dave // Aug 28, 2008 at 9:51 am
Msg I’d rather be with a team such as the hammers than with one where fans or so called fans like you keeping thinking you the next big thing, when you are not.
7 Dave // Aug 28, 2008 at 9:54 am
Ho great thats that solved then, we’ll settle for relegation battle but it’s ok because Curbishley is the man for the job. Curbishley wouldn’t have had to make use of what he has if he’d have not brought so many crocks, and that is part of the reason we are in this mess.

OMG. I never really comment on these articles, unless something really angers me….
I am a Spurs fan. How can anyone say we are fickle. We as SUPPORTERS have always stuck by our team/managers till the death. The board may be fickle, but theres not a lot we can do about that is there? All my West Ham mates turn on their side/players after 1 or 2 bad displays.
If you need proof, look no further than Spurs last season….Possibly one of the worsts starts to a season ever, Loosing at home to in the uefa cup, manager within minutes of getting the sack, and yet still a full White Lart Lane singing the name of Martin Jol….Fickle???? Yeah Whatever. So shut up Clouty
9 Upminster Iron // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:03 am
Hey juno, what about your fans that are demanding that Ramos is sacked two games into the season? What about the ones who have turned on Gareth Bale after one poor performance? What about the fans who loved Berbatov but now hate him?
10 pete // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:04 am
West Ham fans becoming fickle!!! This is the crowd who hounded out Paul Ince, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Jermaine Defoe, freddie Kanoute and their best manager by a country mile Harry Redknapp…
WH as a club have spotted, nutured and produced lots and lots of wonderful players over the years. WH supporters on the other hand haven’t got a clue. So Bellamy, Dyer, Parker etc are perfect players for WH crowd they are on the same level…..crap

12 Catcher // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:10 am
Juno spot on, every time i hear those west ham jerk offs, they are slagging either their players or managers, take Carrick fans used to slag him all the time, goes to Spurs they turn him into England player and sell him for 18 million, that paid for Berbatov and Keane.
They are without a doubt the most fickle fans in the Premier League, even worse than Arsenal or Chelsea

NONE of those players, bar Lampard, can have any problem with the way they were treated while they were at UP. Some, Defoe and Ince, have been treated badly (IMO) after they left. Joe Cole and Harry get a good reception, as would Kanoute, if he ever came back

Alan Curbishley and West Ham United is a match made in hell. The two have nothing in common, nothing at all. He was an okay match for Charlton, but really, he’d be more suited to another profession altogether. Maybe a career within the Information Technology (I.T.) sector? Hth

Well I have to say that the team Curbs built towards last year looked fantastic going forwards and a real promising year with good counter attacking football, the pace we should have had was amazing. But there it is in the statement “Should have had” I don’t think Curbs is deliberately playing negative football just trying to survive things at the moment and there were no WH fans more gutted than me after Sunday’s debarcle but whilst we weren’t playing well we were still on for an away point at city until Noble’s stupidity undid the game plan, so if you are going to blame anyone for our one defeat in 3 blame Noble. as for last night again it didn’t sit well but we went through (and I hear you shout that it should have been a foregone conclusion) but have we ever made cup games against lower side easy work? I do think that there is more going on than we know about and by the looks of it what curbs knows about so until saturday at 5pm Curbs has my support, but if we have another bad performance coupled with a smiling Judas at the end of it my backing may find it’s way to acertain Croatian with claret and blue tendencies, you know who you are Mr Bilic. as for the Spurs comments on here it just isn’t worth going into, but Maybe next year ah lad’s or was that said this time last year, or was it the year before. Or was that the food poisoning year, or Mayber the year we all saw the email with the new sponsor as being the clothing store NEXT with year below it. De jarvou me thinks? Oh and Fickle fans are only after decent football as we are football people, always been known for attractive football and bringing on the youth, OH and Pete Joe Cole is welcomed back with open arms and Freddie would get a good reception as well, the others did it themselves and as with Berbatov I am sure when he comes back with Man U and thumps 1 or 2 past whoever your keeper is now you will all stand and cheer him !!! Muppet.

I’ve been watching football since the late 1960s and can tell you that football attitudes of fans, players and boards have all changed and not always for the better over the past 15 years or so. I’ve heard home crowds turn on their teams all over the country. I’ve heard chairmen say one thing and do the opposite. I’ve seen the work rate of expensive and highly paid players make my old school team look like action men. And they get injured far too often these days. ALL fans are fickle. We’ve got a right to be critical ‘cos after all, we pay good money to watch our teams.
18 juno // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:42 am
Upminster Iron, Every team in the world has a percentage offickle fans, Spurs are no different. But to pigeon hole Spurs as “top of the fickleness league ” is just crap.
19 The King // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:43 am
Hi Will, thanks for that next joke.
At least Spurs fans can dream of making the top 4 eh ;) Ambition is ok.
But hey I guess you have ambition as well - to not go and get relegated again :D
Anyways, we have some Spurs rejects we are trying desperately to get off our books - could you have a word with your board to do the honours as per usual?
20 juno // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:48 am
another example is I remember all my West ham mates telling me their hatred for defoe, and that he’ll leave us one day, and we’ll hate him just the same…..errrr..no. I’ll actually applaud the man on he’s return to the lane.
AND, one of my West ham mates was telling the other day that he only goes to games now days to hurl abuse at the players and manager!!!! Great Support there
Rant over

To The King
We can all dream of making the top 4, even Derby Fans.
Stop living on the team you had during the 60’s and come back to reality, you are no longer a big club and all the dreaming of a top 4 finish is all that it is, a dream. And West Ham I seem to remember finished above you last year despite only playing for the first half of the season.
still there’s always next year!!
23 Stuart // Aug 28, 2008 at 11:00 am
Juno - have to say it does seem that way at west ham right now. Some (lots of) fans turn up just to let out their bile and hatred for anything going :- former players or managers, our own manager and players, chelsea and tottenham in general.
I do wish we just got (like we used to) with supporting our own team.

Stuart, Do you know what. When I use to go over Spurs as a kid I actually use to be quite envious of the west ham supporters. They would sing the whole game no matter what, and if truth be known actually use to go to upton park when it was the old north bank stand terracing with my mate ( and he use to come with me to spurs), the atmosphere was phenominal, and I think it use to actually help the team get out of some scrapes.
Don’t know when it all changed to be honest. New generation of fans?? Just the way football has changed??? I dont’t know.
29 Ghost of WHO // Aug 28, 2008 at 11:31 am
West Ham fans might be getting a little fickle but the award of deluded fans surely has to go to Spurs.
“This year we’ll be right up there….” - I hear this every year from the few Spurs I know and it’s never happened.
30 The receptionist // Aug 28, 2008 at 11:34 am
Most fickle fans ever? FC Barcelona - they live to complain, and are at their happiest when they are being beaten.
31 juno // Aug 28, 2008 at 11:36 am
Ghost of WHO,
We here at Spurs like to actually refer to it as “the false dawn” :)
Can you blame us. Every year we are promised great things, make good signings.
I swear Spurs could buy the man utd team where the utd shirt, play at old trafford, have sir alex as a manager, and we’d still manage to F#ck it up

Spammer perpetuating this media myth about Yids thinking we are going to finish in the top four.Even if we did isn’t that better than just thinking a top half finish is possible, like you all do at the Boleyn?.You lot have to be realistic about your chances despite the money you have spent on player’s in recent seasons. We may have had a bad league season, but let me remind you we whipped you in the league and won a cup,now which you of you HONEST spammers would be grateful for that??..

I never once denied that we sell our best players off or get humiliated a lot. I just pointed out that it’s been happening to you a lot too recently. It’s just the fact that a lot of your fans are so condescending when the fact is you finished below us last year and are below us again right now.
Juno is more on the money. You should be doing better than you are with the money you’ve invested but all it seems to do is give you grand expectations that the club don’t seem capable of delivering.
The 4-0 last season would have been a better example than the 4-3 though!

So Spurs haven’t reached the cup final for seventeen years?.Hey hammer tell me who won the respective FA cup finals of 1991 and 2006?..You will find it wasn’t the “appy ammers” in either of those years was it?…You lot are far too cool to argue with aren’t ya?…Sounds like the guy above may have hit a nerve with the length of time since you last won a trophy and if last night’s feelings from the Boleyn are anything go by,then that wait could be longer this season.

As a West Ham fan I would have to say that the issue is not with our position in the league or Cubishley’s failure to be on target for the boards grandiose claims. Our fans have an expectation of a different sort we expect passion, endeavour and (at least an attempt at) quality football.
I resent the claim that we are anything like those unrealistic glory hunters of Totenham and chelsea demanding league success and trophies (you have to remember that’s the only reason that half their fans ’support’ their club in the first place).
