Little and large have been vital in England’s modest success

Michael Owen and Peter Crouch

As you probably know by now, Fabio Capello has boldly decided that Theo Walcott and Emile Heskey are more likely to score England goals than Michael Owen and Peter Crouch. It’s unlikely that this brave decision will prove costly against Andorra, it could prove disastrous not having two proven international goalscorers in the squad when England visit Croatia next Wednesday.

Here are some stats that illustrate why Owen and Crouch will be sorely missed, courtesy of our friends at chickendinner:

Owen isn’t fully fit. If Capello picked him, he’d be accused of picking the same players, not players who earn there place by merit and current form. A fit Owen would get a place. An Owen who whilst half fit scores against the giants that are Bolton, and Coventry, but looks ordinary against Arsenal…

Crouch is awful, he truely is awful, he’s goal records ok against weak nations. Other than that he has a famous girlfriend. WOW.

owen is over rated. he used to be good. Theo and Heskey deserve a chance. Heskey is strong and fast, and im sure he would form a good partnership with theo walcott when they both start

Heskey isn’t fast. You are on crack.
