Bulgarian defender employs volleyball techniques in goal mouth
Yesterday afternoon, Aston Villa faced Bulgarian side PFC Litex Lovech in the UEFA Cup. As you probably know by now, the Midlands side came out 3-1 victors, while nearly 7,000 fans watched the home side get two players sent off.
The second red card offence is pure comedy cheating. Head to (0.56) in the video above to see defender Mihail Venkov spike the ball with a thunderous volleyball serve that makes Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ look pretty subtle. How on Earth did he think he would get away with it? The mind boggles.

Come off it! That wasn’t a concious attempt to cheat, it was just a reflex action. Amateur players do that all the time.

You’re joking– did you see Paul Scholes slap the ball into the net during the UEFA super cup against Zenit?
I believe the commentator (that I watched) referred to it as the “Ginger Prince rising like a majestic salmon”.
