Luiz Felipe Scolari admitted that it wouldn’t be a surprise if Chelsea were to lose in Romania tonight but, considering the start they have made to the season, not many people believe him. However, our pals at chickendinner believe that even if the Blues avoid their first defeat of the season against CFR Cluj, there’s no way they’ll leave with three points. Here’s why:

1. Chelsea have won their first four away games this season but in the last twenty years Chelsea have only once - 2003-04 - got through their first five on the road without dropping a point.

2. The Blues dropped points against all three of their group stage opponents last season - Valencia, Werder Bremen and Rosenberg - and against two out of three in each of the three seasons prior to that.

3. CFR Cluj have lost just three of their last forty home games in both the Romanian League and Europe.

4. The Romanian side are unbeaten at home after five games this season though three of their last four have finished level.

5. Romanian football is on the rise with both representative clubs performing well in the Champions League so far this season. While CFR Cluj won their first game 2-1 away to Roma, Steaua Bucharest have lost just one of their four, a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

one two games drew five at home…and this record is supposed to worry…try going four years without loosing a game against some great teams including the current euro champs….at tade more impressive i think!!

I think that fact is designed to point out that a draw may be more likely than a Cluj win. Either way, they won away at Roma - a team who had only lost four home games since December 2005 and just one Champions League home game in three years. If Scolari is nervous, you should be too!

how you can you say it was just to point out that a draw is more likely when the title of the article is “why chelsea WONT beat CFR Cluj tonight”

They lost 1 home game in the champs in the last three years, but how many have they played? and against who? My guessing it wasnt against major teams and it wasnt in the later stages of the comp…why should we be so nervus, we play and beat much better teams most weekends…not saying its going to be easy but no reason why we shouldnt feel confident, after all we have got to the semis 4/5 the last five years!

Yes, and the fact they are unbeaten at home this season is a reason why Chelsea won’t win - regardless of how many they have drawn.

Roma have played a fair few Champions League home games over the past few seasons and some of the minnows they have beaten include Manchester United and Real Madrid - so I’d say Cluj winning there was a big deal!

Spurs weren’t a much better team but you dropped points at home to them. Obviously Chelsea go in as favourites but look at Juventus. They lost a final on penalties like you not that long ago and I’m sure they thought they’d win away at some Belarussian team called BATE Borisov but look what happened there!

If Cluj wins, look no further than the star power on the Chelsea bench: Deco, Carvalho, Cole and Essien.
