One of the finest TV clips of our time is the guy on Family Fortunes who can’t stop saying “turkey”. As the audience rolls around laughing, his nearest and dearest look on, disappointed and livid. He’s just lost them the show. In the context of the England manager, the “turkey” answer we’re no longer looking for is “Lampard and Gerrard”.

Both are on fine form, particularly Lampsie, but we know they don’t work together. The big question is whether Capello has the cojones to leave Stevie on the bench, particularly with Joe Cole absent.
