Man Utd/ Celtic, ITV1, 7.45pm, Free £10 bet

Wayne Rooney

With Celtic incapable of winning on the road and Manchester United unbeatable at Old Trafford in Europe in recent years, a home win should be a foregone conclusion, yet that wasn’t the case two years ago when the Scots were unlucky to lose 3-2. It could be close again tonight, but free-scoring Wayne Rooney should make all the difference.

Here are the three great bets for tonight’s game, courtesy to our friends at chickendinner

Best Bet
Manchester United to win and Wayne Rooney to score at any time - evens with Paddy Power - Rooney has scored in each of his last eleven games for club and country in October, managing fifteen goals in total in those games.

Decent Bet
Draw at half-time/win at full-time - 7/2 with Ladbrokes - Three of Celtic’s last four European away games have been goalless at half-time only for them to lose 1-0 at full-time. All four of Manchester United’s home games in the Premier League and Europe have been level at half-time, as was this fixture two years ago. Three of those have been goalless at the break, which can be backed at 13/5 with Bet365.

Brave Bet
Manchester United to win 1-0 - 13/2 with totesport, 6/1 generally - Celtic have lost their last four European away games by this margin while United have won their last four games to nil. The risk lies in the fact that this fixture finished 3-2 two seasons ago.

Need more advice before parting with your hard-earned? Here’s some more statistics for tonight’s game…

» Celtic haven’t won away in Europe under Gordon Strachan and haven’t scored in their last six Champions League games, excluding qualifiers.

» Excluding the qualifying stages, Celtic have lost fifteen of sixteen Champions League away games (one after extra time) and drawn just one.

» Manchester United are now unbeaten in over seventeen months in the Champions League since losing 3-0 to Milan in May 2007. That run stretches fifteen games.

» And the Red Devils haven’t lost at Old Trafford in Europe for three years and seven months since a home loss, again to Milan, in March 2005. That run stretches seventeen games.

» Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have kept clean sheets in seven of their last eight Champions League games, with Frank Lampard the only player to have scored against them during that period.
