Fabio’s men are serious contenders for South African tournament

How Capello may look in 2010

England are currently 9/1 to win World Cup 2010, with only Brazil, Argentina and Spain posing a greater threat in the eyes of the bookies. Fabio Capello’s side have shown improvement with each of his ten games in charge, and with an 80 per cent win rate, he is by far the country’s most successful manager. But will he be able to maintain this record and bring home football’s most valuable prize? Or are we all giddy and caught up in the post-Germany excitement?

Yes you are getting giddy… I believe England has improved a great deal since the Euro qualifiers, but I think they have a long way to go before the reach the finals of a tournament. There simply should not be any sort of great accomplishment felt from the Germany friendly. In all reality, the absences to the German side have been greatly played down. A decimated midfield, the majority of the match without Podolski, an uncapped and embarrassing defender in Marvin Commper. The victory was served on a silver platter. Given the poor selections Loew made for his starting 11, the many 3rd choice players must have been purely experimental, with no real goal of success. How would have England’s 1st team done against this starting 11?

    Podolski
    Klose
    Schweinsteiger
    Ballack
    Frings
    Schneider
    Lahm
    Metersacker
    Friedrich
    Jansen
    Adler

When the tournament comes around, expect an incredibly dangerous and dominate German starting 11. Expect Ballack to be furiously determined to bring home the title. Expect Ballack to have a huge tournament. I predict Germany will reach the semis.
