Spurs saviour might not spend wisely in January
In a move that questions Harry Redknapp’s reputation as a transfer guru, Tony Adams has revealed that Portsmouth turned down Geovanni at the start of last season. The six-goal Hull star would have been a freebie, but instead they splashed out £13 million on David Nugent and John Utaka, who have scored a combined five league goals.
Adams said:
“He looked good, scored a goal and was available but I think it was felt at the time we had enough in (that) position.”

wow he turned down one player who has turned out (so far) to be pretty decent & he also signed 2 players who didn’t make the grade (1 of whom was getting rave reviews).
no mention of the fact that he signed Sol Campbell or David James or Kanu or Diarra or Mendes or Muntari or Johnson or Defoe or Crouch or Yakubu or Kranjcar…
not to mention that although tony adams has come out & said that harry has turned down x player who turned out to be decent - i’m guessing that he’s not the only player harry turned down so are we to believe that seeing as this is the only one Adams has mentioned, does this mean that he’s the only one who harry turned down who’s actually turned out to be any good?!?!

wow Rob - what incredible scouting techniques Redknapp must have. Campbell, James, Kanu, Diarra, Johnson, Defoe, Crouch, Yakubu - how on earth did he uncover those players? He must have a huge network - one that stretches to West and North London at least. Kranjcar was a god spot but rumour has it that Wenger threw him Adams’ way so that Arsenal could pick him up when they need him, if he adjusted, which is now

I think it’s overhyped that Redknapp is good spotter of talent. He buys players who don’t fit in at other clubs and gives them a go.
His last season at West Ham was near relegation with the best crop of youngsters the Hammers have had for years.
Later in life, given money has spent about 10m more than needs be on Palacios who wasn’t even Wigan or Birmingham’s best player… go figure
