The Spoiler

Just two weeks remain before the transfer window is opened again

Roque Santa Cruz

January 1 is looming large on the horizon and after the return of the Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid saga yesterday, the Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City rumour got jealous and has now made a comeback in an attempt to steal back the spotlight. Here all The Spoiler’s favourite pieces of transfer guesswork from today’s papers:

Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City
While some newspapers are reporting that Sam Allardyce only agreed to take the Blackburn job if he could keep the Paraguay striker, The Times go against the grain and say Big Sam wants to sell him for £20 million to raise transfer funds. They also claim that Manchester City’s highest bid in the summer was £14 million so why the logic in them offering an extra £6 million for someone who has scored less than Roman Bednar this season is flawed.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: If they sell, they probably won’t make as much money they could have in the summer

Gary O’Neil to Portsmouth
When Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie spoke about having identified targets to replace Real Madrid bound Lassana Diarra, Pompey fans were surely hoping to see a large chunk of the alleged £18 million they will receive reinvested but instead it looks like they are just going to bring back their unsettled former player O’Neil from Middlesbrough.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: A decent player who wouldn’t cost much. It remains to be seen if Tony Adams will really get to spend the rest of the money as he claims

Miguel to Chelsea
The Portugeuse right-back, who plays second fiddle to Jose Bosingwa for his national side, reportedly wants to leave Valencia to join Chelsea where, you guessed it, he can play second fiddle to Jose Bosingwa.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: It would be like England’s second-choice left-back Wayne Bridge happily bench-warming behind Ashley Cole at club level…oh wait a minute!

Leroy Lita to West Brom
Reading striker Leroy Lita could make his third loan move in less than a year as Tony Mowbray looks to find a striker who can keep West Brom in the Premier League. The forward is currently on loan at Norwich but that deals is expires early in January.

The Spoiler Truth-o-meter: It will be good for Mowbray to have some options but Lita only has eight Premier League goals to his name
