Liverpool/Everton, 8pm, Setanta Sports 1, Free £10 bet
2009 marks the ten year anniversary of Everton’s last win at Anfield, and they have two opportunities this week to ensure end their lean streak. Liverpool are unbeaten at home this season, but they have been held to a draw on more than a few occasions. Here are eight reasons why our boys at chickendinner expects them to drop points tonight:
1. Everton’s form away from Goodison Park is so impressive that they have won more on their travels than Liverpool have at home this season. Only Chelsea have a better away point average this season than the Toffees.
2. David Moyes’ side know how to perform a smash and grab. They have recorded the second most 1-0 wins in the league this season and four of those have come away.
3. Everton have won four straight games and are unbeaten in six despite the lack of recognised strikers due to injuries to Louis Saha, Yakubu and James Vaughan.
4. The Toffees have kept six straight clean sheets in all competitions since losing out in injury-time at home to Aston Villa.
5. Liverpool have drawn five of their last eight league games and have only won five of their last fourteen encounters with Everton at Anfield.
6. Everton have already picked up draws against top four sides Chelsea and Manchester United in this campaign.
7. The last time Liverpool had the chance to go top on a Monday night they drew 0-0 with West Ham, which was enough to climb to first but not enough to stop the fans booing at full-time. Rafael Benitez’s side also drew 0-0 with Stoke the last time they were on Setanta and their only defeat came in a game against Spurs that was televised by the Irish broadcaster.
8. Tim Cahill has scored as many in this fixture (3) as Liverpool’s top scorer this season Steven Gerrard despite playing eight less Merseyside derbies. Fernando Torres has scored all three goals in the last two Liverpool Everton fixtures but hasn’t scored in the league since the beginning of October.
