England star admits he’d rather stay away from California

David Beckham

After playing in a 2-2 draw at Ibrox last night, David Beckham finally spoke out about extending his stay in Milan. Much to the dismay of LA Galaxy fans (all sixteen of them), Becks admitted he wished to finish his career with the Rossoneri:

“My intention is to stay in Milan and I hope the clubs can come to some agreement. Hopefully I can finish my career here.”I haven’t personally spoken to the Galaxy but someone from my side has and they have expressed my desire to sign for Milan.

“At the moment I don’t know if Galaxy will let me go. Hopefully they will. I’ve done all I can and now it’s down to the two teams.”

Playing in Serie A will infinitely increase Beckham’s chances of appearing in World Cup 2010, but he made a commitment to raising the profile of “sawker” in the USA, and risks alienating millions of MLS fans and several sponsors. That’s exactly the kind of damage Brand BeckhamTM usually tries to avoid.

So, should Beckham finish the job he started across the pond, or should he get his career back on track a little closer to home? Votes and comments below, please…

Of course he should leave if he wants to go to the World Cup. MLS is rubbish. I mean, it’s inconceivable that, for example, a World Cup team with mostly MLS players could do as well as England has in the World Cup over the last 15 years. Oh wait. That was the USA’s quarter final run in 2002 with mostly MLS players.

as a galaxy fan from pasadena (where they used to play) i think beckham should stay in milan, because he’s disrespected the team and the fans by entering into the loan agreement in the first place sans negotations with the team, and now publicly voicing his opinion before a deal is worked out. classless and selfish, we won more games without him anyways. good riddance.

I think his behavior has been horrible. From the get go MLS and the Galaxy have kissed his over rated ass and gone to great lengths to promote him as the “Ambassador” of MLS and it’s obvious to everyone who lives in Southern California that this diva only came here to walk red carpets and be seen at LA Lakers games. And now he’s like the rat abandoning a sinking ship!!!
Unbelievable!! he is really screwing everyone in the States over. He’s damaged what little credibility MLS had. He has shown no consideration at tall to the Galaxy. I say, force him to stay even though he doesn’t want to, and make him honor his contract or else sue his ass and drag this out in the courts just to make him miserable for as long as possible.

if beckham appears in world cup 2010, can the last person to leave britain please turn out the lights. he’s been a talisman of failure on the international stage and now we have to bear him talking about ‘playing a part’ for another two years. remember the sending off against argentina, the tackle he pulled out of against brasil, and the general shitness in the last world cup. Please … Go… Back… To… America… And.. Let… Us… Get… On… With… Our… Lives… With Ashley Young and Walcott
