Spurs will be “involved”, claims manager
As Tottenham slowly claw themselves away from the danger zone, some are concerned by a run in that includes Chelsea at home and visits to Old Trafford and Anfield. Harry Redknapp, however, argues that it is good to be playing the title chasers:
Think about it. We have to play Liverpool at Anfield on the last day of the season, Sunday May 24.It might be the stuff of nightmares for fans but a look at my calendar and I see the Champions League final is three days later.
We have to go to Old Trafford next month and, luckily, the following week are the Champions League semi-finals.
Alex Ferguson might not fancy risking his very best players to play Spurs when he is so close to such an important game.
Harry makes a good point - teams involved in the Champions league are bound to pick up injuries, and will want to save their best players for the European competition. Yet the Spurs gaffer seems a get a little carried away with himself towards the end of the column, claiming that his side may decide the title race:
Someone said to me the other day that Tottenham are going to have possibly the biggest single voice in the destiny of the Premier League championship this season.
It’s a bit much to claim we have a say in the title race, let’s just say we are… involved.
In an otherwise forgettable season, Tottenham have enjoyed relatively good form against the Big Four, but will they really become the architects of the downfall of a club like Manchester Utd or Liverpool at the end of the season? Fulham and Arsenal must also play the top three before the end of the season - are Spurs a bigger “voice” than them?
With all this talk of being “involved” in the title race and challenging the big four next term, the words “ideas” and “above their station” spring to mind.
