Simon Jordan moots new league proposals
Crystal Palace’s orange-faced goon chairman Simon Jordan has nothing to do with the Premier League or the Scottish Premier League, but the Daily Record have sought after his well-paid opinion on the matter of whether the Old Firm should be invited to join in with the fun in England:
“Football is evolving all the time and this would be great for the Scottish clubs but they should pay to come down.
“I’d suggest £100million and the immediate financial benefits that arise for both clubs would soon cover it. Their share price would go through the ceiling on the back of massive revenue increases.
“The SPL does not attract a worldwide audience - the Premier League does. It would be a great thing for Celtic and Rangers but the Old Firm would not add enormously to the levels of interest in a league that’s already massively exposed.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen but it’s still a long way off as no deals can be done until the next round of talks with broadcasters, scheduled for 2013.”
Jordan’s comments follow rumours that Bolton’s chairman Phil Gartside will propose a new structure for the Premier League during a meeting of charimen on Thursday (rumours that the BBC have since said are not true). In order to limit the devastating effect of relegation, Gartside may suggest a two-tier Premier League with eighteen sides. The Spoiler can’t help but think that this sounds like another pointless re-branding exercise. Sure, there would be less teams and therefore a less demanding league season, but would we then refer to the fourth tier then be referred to as ‘League One’? How long until all four divisions come under the Premier League name?
If the FA, the Scottish FA and UEFA were to allow such a re-branding to take place, would Celtic and Rangers really benefit from being a part of it? Paying £100m for the privilege of giving up any chance of European football, while simultaneously diminishing the rest of the Scottish League doesn’t sound like a very good idea to us.
Let us know what you think about Jordan’s comments below…

No. This would be the worst possible thing for Scottish Football, locally and Internationally. There is a proud tradition of top quality Scottish players and Scotland needs a top notch Premier League with 16 teams that only play each other once at home and once away. The current league is just too small with ten teams. Celtic and Rangers are the teams all Scottish players should want to play for and to aim for European glory.

Peter
I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. For a start, there’s 12 teams in the SPL.

What’s the point? So they can battle it out with West Ham for mid-table obscurity?
Just let them into the FA Cup or something.

Celtic & Rangers would be mad to leave their world of guaranteed European football

This is a no-brainer. The last time this came up the Celtic Chairman was asked on Celtic TV what this would do for Celtic and his reply was
The first thing that he would do was increase the size of this place (Celtic Park) from 60,000 to 83,000.
When the top clubs in England look at Celtic they see a club who has a worldwide support and a massive brand name and the potential to knock all four off their perch, so it wont happen!

Dumb. It’s all just unnecessary. Leave it alone.

While you’re at it, you can dump the rest of the Scottish Premier League into the Championship and League One because, without Rangers and Celtic, there is no top flight league.

Am not fully decided, but what DOES make me laugh is the ‘ingirlish’ pundits and ‘fans’ coming up boasting about how great the ‘English’ premier league is…(?!). Shouldn’t it be the IPL (International….). At the game last week between Chelski and the now forgign Liverpool there were THREE ingirlish players…the includes the bench! The game was hailed as a ‘classic’! It was a game frought with poor passing and low skill by a bunch of non-ingirlishmen!The ingirlish national team says it all. You’re only marginally better than Scotland and only have a marginally better record against us than we have against you. And yet you’ve (ironically…?) 11 times our population!
The over-inflated ego’s of the egocentric ingirlish pundits and majoriy of their idiotic, sheepish fans is frankly laughable. You AREN’T any good!
So…Celtic and Rangers in England? Frankly, I’d rather they stayed up with us. However, only a complete idto could possibly even attempt to argue that with The Old Firm’s following, coupled with the money available to other EPL clubs that you boys would have a LOT to worry about! THAT is the indefensible truth…though the chimps will attempt to deny this! (Bless!)
STUFF your IPL!
P.S: No…the ball wasn’t over the line.
P.S.S: If the Mod’s allow this truth on, fair play!

Celtic and Rangers couldn’t compete in the Premier League. Enough said.

Naethyn, you preach lies. Obviously I don’t regard Celtic or Rangers as being able to compete with the Big 4 in the Premiership season after season but at the end of the day I reckon they could give the majority of teams outside of the Big 4 a run for their money, maybe even some of the Big 4 on a good day.

How about we combine the Championship with the Scottish Premiership?
At least Celtic and Rangers won’t be relegated that way.

NO way celtic & rangers should start in league 2 and earn promotion to the premier league. failing that i will end my sky subscription (lets see how long the prem will last if we all do that) and walk away from football in england.
Stab me in the back and i will destroy you Judas.
