Likely President Florentino Perez sets sights on Gunners gaffer
The morning after Arsene Wenger claimed to have suffered “the most disappointing night of [his] career”, the Spanish press have gone into full speculation mode.
Marca claim likely Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will swoop for the brainy Frenchman to “lead a project based on stars and academy players”. The daily sport paper also purport that Wenger will be the key to the signing of “his footballing son,” known to the rest of the world as Cesc Fabregas.
It is fair to assume that the Arsenal captain would stay loyal to his coach, but we’re not convinced that Wenger’s work in North London is done just yet.
Elsewhere in the Madrid-based press, AS editor Alfredo Relaño makes some bold claims in his daily column. He believes Real will attempt to dethrone Barcelona next season with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and either Cesc Febregas or David Silva.
Los Blancos have no problem with operating with huge debts, but whether their pockets are deep enough to land all those big names remains to be seen…
