Someone has managed to outdo to rubbish Emirates Cup line-up
The Spoiler has good news for Arsenal fans who are disappointed to be facing Rangers instead of Real Madrid this summer: the Emirates Cup is no longer the worst friendly tournament taking place.
It has been reported today that West Ham, Tottenham and Hull will all go to China to face Beijing Guoan in the Premier League Asia Trophy. The tournament has previously been attended by Chelsea and Liverpool but the apparent invitation to Hull, who may not even be in the Premier League next season, suggests that they are really having to scrape the barrel this year.
Our theory is that as Premier League clubs have won each of the previous three tournaments, the organisers are trying to give the Asian entrant a strong chance of winning for a change. It also means that West Ham’s next “cup final” against Tottenham (as fixtures between the sides are mockingly referred to by Spurs fans) could actually be a cup final.

It’s probably too much to expect that journalists do any research before churning out an article, but Hull City were invited to this tournament due to their lofty keague position in the first half of the season.
I also understand that if Hull City are relegated, the invitation is withdrawn.

You will see from the final league positions, that Hull City did indeed stay in the Premier League, at their first attempt. This is remarkable when you think that most of the team involved, were in fact, Championship players from the season before. Hull city didn’t really invest a lot of money in the team last year, but hopefully, things should improve this coming season.

It’s not quite so remarkable when you consider just how bad Newcastle and Middlesbrough were. Not many teams can claim to have survived with just 35 points.

It IS remarkable when you consider that both Middlesbrough, Newcastle and West Brom who finished below us all have at least one player in each of their teams that cost more than it cost to assemble the entire Hull squad.
