Why Carlos Tevez won’t be missed at Old Trafford

The anti-Carlos bandwagon is rolling through Manchester

Carlos Tevez

He works hard, he’s committed and he clearly doesn’t take himself too seriously. There are plenty of reasons why Carlos Tevez is a fan favourite at Manchester Utd, and Alex Ferguson finds himself under a great deal of pressure from the Old Trafford faithful to ’sign him up’.

There is, however, an underlying current of resentment towards the Red Devils’ version of Dirk Kuyt - many are disappointed by his recent attitude and potential defection to City, some think he is not worth Kia Joorabchian’s £30m valuation, and others simply think he’s butters (for those who aren’t down with the kids like The Spoiler and Dr Fox, that means ‘rubbish’).

Don’t believe us? Here are some filleted chunks fresh from the comments section of Republik of Mancunia, the biggest Manchester Utd fansite:

“The man obviously doesn’t understand the squad game and is more interested in getting himself selected for the world cup squad, hence why he wants playing time. Although, understandable, surely 20 to 30 games a season at United is better than 40 odd at the bitters?”

“He’s played approximately the same number of minutes as Berbatov and Rooney. He played in last year’s Cl final and one half of this year’s. If he moves to City we will definitely know he’s fucked the fans over. Personally I thought his behaviour towards Fergie at the end of the season was disgraceful and worse than Ronaldo’s.”

“Personally i don’t think he’s good enough…and if a striker is really whats needed (which i’m not too sure about) then surely there are better ones in the market. Also I don’t think SAF wants him in the first place, even for the reduced price.”

“He’s tosh, let him go. He can’t pass, can’t shoot, can’t head the ball, runs with the ball with his head down so never finds a decent pass, and he can trap the ball further than I can kick it. He’ll be OK at Wastelands then.”

“He’s been using the crowd to try and get a better deal for himself.”

“He has been treated well, he has been paid £75k a week, won two league championships, European Cup as well as vice European cup holders, league cup winner and has played almost the same amount of game time as the others, and he scored 5 league goals, who has been treated badly him or us?”

“I’d much rather see United give more chances to the kids than get panicked into spending over the odds on Tevez. I’m sick of players thinking it’s all about them, rather than the team.”

So, Manchester Utd fans, are these comments representative of your feelings towards Carlitos? Let us know with a comment below…

    6th excerpt shown above:

    ‘vice Eurpoean cup holders’

‘European Cup Runners up’ I could accept, but vice holders? WTF…..

    Typical Man Yoo dross…

Once a so-called ‘great’ (?) player shoots his mouth off and bites the hand that feeds him he is not fit to be in the team, especially so when he has to ask Maradona where he ought to play the next season. That shows that all his his previous expressed desire to play for ManU was just pure play-acting. Goodbye Tevez … and good luck!

I have watched him play his socks off, unfortunately all to often it is to retrieve the ball in defence when he has lost it in attackl.

In Carlos’ immortal words at the end of the season ” i verry dificul, no? It’s very easy go take the piss somewhere else.

Tevez needs to be let go… For the sake of Carlos… For the sake of Fergie… For the sake of ManU.

To me it the best for all involved.

Having won two premiership titles, played in two champions league finals (winning one), a world club title, a carling cup title, not to mention the charity shield and having had the pricesless adulation of the fans..Carlos Tevez claism to be badly treated by Man Utd..I find it a ridiculous cliam..considering he had played the same amount of time or more then the rest of the strikers..his head shaking and ear cupping has been absolutely disgraceful…but i would not agree that should he sign for Man City ..he has defected..remember..Tevez was on LOAN..he never was our player and for the money his “OWNERS” want..we wont want him anyway..wat we need two good midfielders and a winger and let the youngsters step-up up for the striking positions…

    @Phil
the term ‘vice european cup holders’ is taking a dig at Pepe Reina who described the bin dippers as vice premier league champions.
so ‘dross’ is quite right, not ‘man yoo’ though.

    I will miss him.

I hope Man Utd won’t miss him when it needs someone like his calibre to help the team.

  • 9 Phil // Jun 17, 2009 at 2:30 pm

    @ Lee

I think this depends upon what context you are looking at the respective comments…

Reina’s comment was made as an inference to a Liverpool’s failure to kill off teams last season and thus not securing the league:

“The squad cannot be happy with this vice-champion finish, as a trophyless season will… etc etc…”

Obviously, constructive crticism from Renia toward the squad as a whole, wheras, whoever made the comment on RoM is attemting to contextualise that Tevez has been treated fairly due to being Vice European Cup Holder (amongst other things)…

Clearly the two are different, as Reina is not trying to suggest that Liverpool are Vice Premier League Trophy holders, quite the opposite yet it would appear that the comment on RoM is looking to claim some semblence of a virtual accolade, like I said, Runners Up - clearly correct, but Vice Holders, I never realised there was a ‘Vice European Cup’ to hold…???

Players who wants to leave should leave……. Am actually fed up with players deteremining wat they want at a club……(they shld then take the role of the Manager)… MAN UTD is an INSTITUTION and not a money mongers club…….

Yip, wrong. Tevez just wants regular football, or at least Fergie should rotate him fairly. You have to remember, no top footballer like to be a sub all the time. If Tevez thinks he deserves to play regularly, that certainly means he is highly confident of his ability and certainly knows he is one of the best players in the world (indeed he is, trust me on this, even though some ignorant people don’t see it that way.)

All Tevez need is just these two: regular football + a reasonable contract. Money is not important to him. Those who thinks he is leaving because of money they don’t even really get to know their own player (in this case Tevez) better be4 they judge him. Simply bizarre.

Regular football (or “fairer” rotation, not like this season which was quite unfair to him) is just all he wants, but if Fergie can’t give this to him, it makes the situation difficult to him. If Fergie promised to play him more, treated him fairly (but of course Tevez has to perform well, which this will not be a question), he would have stayed already. Now it could be too late for Fergie to ask him to stay, and perhaps no promise from Fergie to play him regularly, and you want to blame him leaving simply because he wants to stay but “can’t stay”? Those who blame him without understand better on the situation perhaps they are out of their mind.

phil, grow up and get looking at your own team, only came second cos chelsea had no stability and arsenal rebuilding, tevez you can have we dont need him, and heres to anyone winning league but liverpool

  • 13 Lee // Jun 17, 2009 at 5:59 pm

    @Phil

Im not referring to the context, I’m merely trying to inform you of how the comment came to be.

We dont go around claiming such an accolade, it was just a piss take. Maybe the writer didnt portray his opinion in the correct way, but I would have thought you could decipher that giving that you are so clued up on Reina’s original statement.

    Get a life!
Teves is the only player in that MUN UTD team that has won everything in 2 continent except for a World Cup at (senior level) .
People quickly forget that if it wasn’t for teves late min goals Man United would have not had double glory last season.
People forget that it was “one carlos teves” who saves West Hams Ass.
Its not about the MONEY its about the lack of respect shown to a world class player. (not by the fans who LOVE him but by the “the old man” Fergie.
Now ( No Cr7 + No Teves = LESS GLORY.)

  • 15 Ted Pere Challi // Jun 18, 2009 at 2:11 am

No Cr7+No Teves = Less Glory? WRONG!!! When the crew become more important than the the ship, as it did during the CL Finals, the ship will sink. Nobody, Christiano and Tevez is more important than the ship (ManU). Period.

Nobody, Christiano and Tevez inclusive, is more important than the ship (ManU). Period. ManU will only prosper and have greater glory when they leave.

    @ phil

Stop stumbling your words Phils, that’s a sign of grasping for straws. Or perhaps you shouldn’t intellectualise your comeback when it’s mostly to flog a dead horse?

  • 18 west ham fan // Jun 18, 2009 at 3:59 am

I totally agree with u, Hand of god.
Without tevez, west ham would be in the league championship, and manu would not hv won the double last season
