Could C-Ron’s dream move end up being a nightmare?

Cristiano Ronaldo

“After Manchester United it is downhill.” Those are the words that David Gill last month claimed to have heard roll from the tongues of many former Old Trafford employees (although presumably not Gerard Pique!).

The example of David Beckham has been used to comfort Manchester United fans as they come to terms with Cristiano Ronaldo’s imminent departure. With the Red Devils he won six titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League but since leaving for Real Madrid in 2003, he’s claimed just one significant trophy - La Liga in his final season in Spain.*

C-Ron has finally been granted his dream move but will he continue to win trophies and Ballon d’Ors or will it turn into a Beckham-esque nightmare? Let us know what you think with a vote and a comment.

*It shouldn’t be forgotten though that United also endured a barren spell after Beckham’s exit, going three years without winning the Premier League or reaching the last eight of the Champions League.

The thing is that it’s hard to find examples. Most MUtd major players basically stayed at Manchester until they’re old.

This didn’t apply to Veron, though, but only because, in his case, downhill was not really possible…

For Cristiano, moving to Madrid may backfire. The reason being that in Manchester, the lack of a social scene/ night life / beach life etc, meant that Cristiano could concentrate on his game. In Madrid, with a much more vibrant and cosmopolitan atmosphere and only hours by car from Lisbon, Cristiano may be diverted from the game. Only time will tell.

Ronaldo will win nothing in Spain.
It’s unfortunate, when your young and talented you think you’re the dogs. I wish him well. However, he will regret the move. Not finically but in football terms. If you’ve been brought up in Portugal or Spain joining Real is like joining Liverpool when they were any good or Man utd. Therefore, I understand why the move has taken place.

Which is good for us because now Rooney can become the striker England need in the World cup? Thanks to Ronaldo. Come on England

It doesn’t really matter does it. He’ll not likely win a Jules Rimet with Portugal - although it could happen - and he’s won most other ‘important’ trophies. Another CL could be won with Real or his next team, he’ll possibly win a La Liga and a Serie A in his twilight. A man can only go so high. I looked at Ronaldinho in his last few games for Barca and I saw a guy who’d been bigged-up for so long, won so much that it just didn’t matter any more. Who is there to beat? Can I get better than ME?

Look at Ruud Van Nistelroy, he was so big in ManUTD then he was sitting on the bench at Real
Look again at Owen, who was highly appreciated at Anfield, then he went out of the back door at Madrid.
    etc etc

van Nistelrooy has been a regular for most of his time at Real Madrid, has won two league titles and has scored 63 goals in 93 games.

Why does everyone think that he is going will regret his move? Of course he is no longer going to win anything, but does he care about winning anything? At Madrid, he can focus on getting a real ridiciulous tan instead of a fake ridiculous tan. As a RM player, he can finally become the full on man and fame whore that he is.
