Dynamo Dresden extend welcome to hate-filled political party

Dynamo Dresden are putting the finishing touches to a renovation of their 32,000-seater Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, and as such, are looking to fill their corporate seats with the type of folks who will sponsor the club and generate income.

Unfortunately, the German 3rd Liga side have landed themselves in hot water by sending an invitation for VIP seating to Deutsche Stimme (”German Voice”), the newspaper published by far-right Neo-Nazi political party Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands (NDP). They’re basically a more extreme version of the BNP, and not exactly the type of folks one would wish to have sponsoring a football club.

The letter, signed by Dresden managing director Stefan Bohne and team manager Ruud Kaiser, warmly encourages the Nazis to come to the stadium and spread their hate among other like-minded individuals:

“In an exclusive environment you can enjoy the unique atmosphere of the stadium, and at the same time make new business contacts.”

Lars Tubbesing, a spokesman for the club who also signed the letter has since insisted that the invitation was an “unfortunate error” and that Dynamo Dresden “do not want to see such people in the stadium - neither as VIP guests nor as sponsors”.

Apparently, with thousand of addresses on the mailing list, it’s quite understandable that one or two prominent Nazi publishing houses get a personally signed invitation…
