Vote: Should ‘impotent’ Arsenal cash in on Cesc Fabregas this summer?

Spaniard continues to hint at a return to his homeland

Cesc Fabregas

The nation’s favourite tabloid may regret their one-word headline approach

Since the conclusion of his sixth season in England, Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been linked to his beloved hometown club Barcelona. Such rumours have been fueled by the man himself, who has made no secret of his desire to return to Catalonia:

“If Guardiola called me it would be different. I would be delighted to go.”

This morning, however, the midfielder suggested he would be content with a move to Real Madrid. Obviously, they are the major rivals of the club he supported as a boy, but they are also the only Spanish club who would be willing to part with the cash necessary to lure him, and it would appear that there would be no room for him in the current Barca team anyway.

Perhaps the most surprising of Cesc’s comments was the dig he directed at Arsenal’s lack of silverware:

“The absence of titles at Arsenal is what angers me the most.

“Cristiano said he’s leaving Manchester United because he had nothing else to win. For me right now it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence.”

Many Gunners assert that Fabregas is paramount to any kind of title challenge, and his loss would be devastating. On the other hand, it can be argued that the want-away Spaniard would not be missed - as Martin Samuel points out, Arsenal won more matches last season when he wasn’t in the team.

If Arsenal were offered the £40-45m that Fabregas’ signature would command in this summer of over-inflated prices, should they take it? Let us know your thoughts below…

Shoddy, shoddy hackery of the worst sort:

‘the man himself, who has made no secret of his desire to return to Catalonia:

‘“[I want to remain at Arsenal and win titles. — Question from reporter: what if Arsenal agreed a fee for you with Barca?] If Guardiola called me it would be different. I would be delighted to go.”’

Funny how it doesn’t actually back up the article at all, when you put it in context, eh? The words in square brackets were incomprehensibly omitted. Must have been a typo…

Utter drivel. I make a point of not reading the red tops during the summer, the hot weather goes to their heads.
