Chelsea don’t want to trade Deco for Maicon, Felipe Melo signs a new contract

A further helping of transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Jose Mourinho and Deco together in their Porto days

Ricardo Carvalho and Deco to Inter Milan
The biggest transfer news of a very slow day comes from Italy’s Sky Sport 24, who claim that Chelsea do not want Nicolas Burdisso or Maicon in exchange for Jose Mourinho’s good friends Deco and Ricardo Carvalho and are instead holding out for around £12 million for the pair.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Maicon’s agent Antonio Caliendo says that he expects his client to stay put this summer so it would make sense for Chelsea to take as much money as they can and shop elsewhere.

Felipe Melo is staying with Fiorentina
Just a day after being urged by international teammate Gilberto Silva to sign for Arsenal, Melo has ignored the advice and signed a new contract keeping him in Tuscany until 2013.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: It doesn’t look like a post-playing career as an agent beckons for Gilberto.

Mirko Vucinic is staying with Roma
By this point last year, Spurs had already signed Luka Modric, Giovani dos Santos and Heurelho Gomes for a combined fee of close to £30 million so their lack of activity so far this summer is rather shocking, especially as Harry Redknapp is in charge. The dry spell looks set to continue after rumoured target Mirko Vucinic’s agent claimed his client is happy to stay with Roma.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: It’s not certain that Spurs actually wanted him; it may just have been another random rumour like the Nigel Reo-Coker and Julien Faubert ones. They don’t need to make major changes this summer though after a strong end to the season so the fact they haven’t done any business yet is no major concern.

UPDATE: Manchester United have completed the signing of Antonio Valencia on a four-year deal while Burnley have “broken the bank” to make Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher their record £3 milion signing.
