The Championship’s biggest club ain’t such a big draw no more
The Workers Stadium in Beijing looked set to claim yesterday’s highly un-coveted “Embarrassingly Low Attendance” award, as approximately one man and his dog turned up to see West Ham’s utterly useless performance against Tottenham.
However, the St James’ Park faithful pipped our Eastern friends to the post last night, as just 16,000 people turned up to see the Toon Army face Leeds. When you consider that 5,000 of those were Leeds fans and Newcastle usually fill their 52,000 seater stadium, this is pretty shocking stuff.
The crowd - whose fercious support was augmented by cheering noises played over the tannoy system - was rewarded for their efforts with a dull 0-0 draw. We were going to post a highlights video, but it’s probably best that we all just get on with the rest of our lives instead.

Not really ’shocking stuff’ at all, it’s a midweek pre-season friendly with a fairly decent attendance for that kind of match

Well, Roody took the bait didn’t he? There’s more mugs who read this page than I thought. Ryan, you know as well as I (and most sane individuals) do that NOBODY attracts 52,000 fans to a mid-week friendlies involving a teams from the second and third tiers.
I like this blog, but the recent ‘topics’ involving Newcastle have done nothing but atract eejits like Roody. If this is your target market, Ryan, so be it; but he’s taking my place…
And FFS, Roody, unless you can find me a quote direct from the mouth of a Newcastle fan, claiming to be part of some sort of ultimate elite of fans, kindly feck off.

Have any pictures from the Peace Cup?
Because I saw part of a game on Justin.tv, OLY against ??? that was played there and the front rows where so bare you could read the blue and white writing of the seats that you can usually only see when its empty.
Some unknown tournament in China with some 3rd league team? Not as shameful as the big preseason shindig in Spain.
The worst was the first few games of the Confederations cup before they started padding the stadium to amke it look better.
And the first few games of the U21 in Sweden. Serbia was finalist last time, playing against Italy and the 16,000 stadium was about 1/3 full.
This chinese thing doenst even hit my top 5 for this summer.
