The times they are a-changin’ at Spoiler Towers
For nearly two years, it has been my absolute pleasure to bring you football news, utterly scurrilous rumours, the world’s best WAGs and frequent spelling mistakes on this site.
Among other things, I’ve waxed lyrical about Cristiano Ronaldo’s unfaltering vanity, Shola Ameobi’s pseudo-robbery, Jermaine Pennant’s questionable attitude towards fidelity and Joe Kinnear’s utter disregard for the concept of media training. The site has won high praise from The Telegraph and The Guardian, kudos from the BBC and Sky Sports, hatred from talkSPORT motormouth Stan Collymore and a Playboy model, and I was even asked by Sky News for my opinion on Joey Barton’s extra-curricular activities. (My invite back to Sky must have got lost in the post, but good times all the same.)
So it is with great melancholy that I announce that my tenure as Editor of The Spoiler ends today. From next week, I will be extolling the virtues of self improvement, having accepted the position as Deputy Editor of Men’s Health Online. Of course, I’m very excited by this new challenge - and the near guarantee of cultivating washboard abs! - but, understandably, I’m feeling a little John-Terry-post-Champions-League-Final about leaving all this behind.
I owe a huge thank you to the readers who have chosen to lower their productivity by spending time on this site, my fellow football bloggers and the good folks at Grand Parade. Without your continued support, I would have been turning tricks on the virtual street long ago.
I genuinely hope you’ve enjoyed reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
Of course, The Spoiler will keep on rockin’ without my daily input, but you haven’t completely got rid of me just yet, as I’ll crop up now and again in an Editor-at-Large capacity. A handsome young devil by the name of Eliot will be stepping into my flip flops and fetid dressing gown for the next few weeks, and unlike Tranmere Rovers under John Barnes, he’s well worth sticking around for. So please do.
Cheers,
Ryan

We’ll miss you! All the best.
PS: please return the 8×10 glossy framed photograph of Cristiano Ronaldo in his silver short shorts before you go. And don’t try the old “it got lost in the post” routine either.

The Spoiler should sprinkle your ashes all over John Barnes’ CV.
Good luck with future endeavors. You’ve been a worthy nemesis.

Not understandable…
I mean the fact that you never got to publish my contribution for the new Man U shirt I sent you, which, I quote “was a fine piece of art” (Louie Louie Louie, 09)
No, seriously…the fine sarcasm sheds a little tear down its cheek in the mourning of one fine warrior.
Wish you the best.

Cheers for all the effort, you’ve been great!
Personal highlight - Stan Collymore. Funniest thing I have ever read/ listened to!
I’ll try to follow you on Men’s Health.
Good Luck!

Good luck, and thanks for all the laughs. The Spoiler was my introduction into the world of humorous football blogs and it’s a staple of my morning RSS feed reading.

Good job Ryan.
Enjoyed your work and Im happy you are following your calling to write for a gay mag.
Im sure you could combine your love of football and training and buffing up by maybe doing a column on body waxing/shaving for men and maybe interview Crissy Ronaldo on how to keep your taint and the rest of your body hair free.

Noooo, you have been (no offence) by far the best humour football blogger in the world and now you leave? I doubt but hope Eliot can fill your boots.
All the best!

“Thanks, that was fun”?? Oh I see how it is. After all is said and done, you’re just going to up and leave and make us all feel like a steamrollered Chantelle Houghton after Jermain Defoe got through with her.
::cries:: Ryan, my love, I’ll miss you!
Best of luck from everything, and please don’t make it too long before you post here again,
hugs and kisses from the USA

Hey Ryan,
Have not been a crazy commenter here but have been reading your blog for plenty of months now. Sad to see you go and reduce your fantastically humourous posts. Would still be frequent here. Good lucky with your future endeavours and sadly won’t be following you to health magazine section. Not my type. :p
Cheers,
Tanuj Lakhina
