Boss Dick Advocaat maintains hardline policy…
New Belgium manager Dick Advocaat was brought into whip an unbelievably underachieving squad into shape, and he’s taking his job pretty seriously. Marouane Fellaini is already a marked man, having missed a match to go to the dentist and reported for training in the wrong coloured socks.
Now Vincent Kompany has felt Dick’s wrath, being told to pack his bags after failing to get back in time from his grandmother’s funeral in Brussels, as Belgium were preparing for last night’s clash with Qatar.
Kompany had already been dropped to bench for the match against Hungary last Saturday, after turning up to a training meeting five minutes late. The Man City defender attributed his tardiness to not being able to wake up by himself, despite being 23 f**king years old:
The players always used to get a wake-up call from the hotel reception desk, but that has apparently changed under the new manager.
You have to make your own arrangements for waking up on time now, but I didn’t know, after being out injured before, and no-one told me. I can understand the manager not being happy, though.

Anyway, at least one member of Belgium’s squad has benefitted from the new, iron-fisted regime. Free scoring Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has been given the captain’s armband after the previous leader, Timmy Simons, was unceremoniously booted out by Advocaat.
