“Goodbye London!”
It’s celebration time for the Gerrard family on Saturday, as Steven will be making his 500th Liverpool appearance, when the side takes on Blackburn. Obviously the whole thing will be totally buggered up if the side loses. So they’ll take no small dollop of hope from the fact that Torres might be playing.
According to Rafa, the Spaniard has been training this week, so could easily land a spot up front. There is no news on whether Aquilani will finally get to remove his tracksuit, however.
In rather non-plussed news, Philippe Senderos has stood up and dramatically declared that now might be the time to draw a line in the sand and finally leave Arsenal. This, presumably, has left thousands who thought that he’d gone years ago totally baffled. Seriously, he’s still there apparently. News on whether Perry Groves might follow suit has not been forthcoming.
And over in sunny Spain, a certain oily-legged Portuguese footballer has been overheard being far too humble as usual:
“If my legs let me play until I’m 40, I want to play. But I want to be in the first page of history, the same as Maradona and Pele.”
Can you guess who it is?

Isn’t Ronaldo just voicing the ambitions of every professional footballer in the world? Maybe he should just aspire to be as good as…..well I guess anyone he said would have gotten the same repsonse from the haters. Jealous much?

eh? whats wrong with that? The guy isn’t saying he WILL be remembered alongside Maradona and Pele just that he wants to be. Whats wrong with a bit of personal ambition? No different to people saying ‘I want to be a millionaire by the time I am 45′ etc
I have never been a fan of the guy. never disliked him just never been a fan. but when he comes out with comments like that and is still criticised, I am beginning to think his fans are right and that people who don’t like him put him down, no matter what he says. guarantee if another player had said that, you wouldn’t have said anything.
I think its refreshing to see a player (who has already achieved it all bar a world cup) so ambitious instead of sitting on his laurels and happy to pick up their pay check every week.

That page isn’t millionaires; it’s billionaires (and then some).
Whether Poof-naldo is saying it to keep the camera’s focus or because he’s deluded enough to believe it (I think it’s both), he is also courting derision.
If Messi had said it, because I’ve seen at least flashes and because he can’t escape the association to the cheating swamp rat, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt to see if he could make good.
Poof-naldo has done nothing at the international level. The hard fact of life is that, in the WC and Euro, he’s up against opposition with far more to play for than creaky EPL defenders, whom he rounded with ease and regularity.
He has consistently shown himself to favor the path of least resistance over getting down for his crown.
Can anyone objectively say that, in a big match, an in-his-prime Desailly (or the like) wouldn’t have put Poof-naldo in his pocket?
The cheating swamp rat got down for the crown; I won’t deny him that. To note a few of the my personal favorites, van Basten, Gullit, Maldini, Zico (add your own) all got down for the crown. Poof-naldo can’t (won’t) even get on the same page with them. He’ll have more than enough to do to pass Fat-naldo (who didn’t get down for the crown).

Sorry, what qualifies something as “non-plussed news”?
I have a feeling you aren’t quite familiar with what “non-plussed” means…

“Anyone who likes football likes me” - Cristiano Ronaldo
That seems to be the problem at the moment with the Spoiler. This editor clearly knows nothing about the game.
A player wanting to be remembered is not arrogance and is not exactly breaking news
