“Where is everyone?”
From now until June, the nation will be held in fierce debate over who should start for England, how the team might line up, whether (yawn) Lampsie and Stevie G can play together. Who should start up front with Rooney.
It’s been raging for a while, that one, with livid grandmothers shrieking about Michael Owen deserving another go, London cocktail drinkers pushing the Jermain Defoe envelope. And rather simple-sounding Middle Englanders rocking in the corner of the room, repeating “Gabby Agbonlahor” over and over again, until the words barely make any sense any more.
But how’s this for an idea - no one to partner Rooney? He seems to have adapted particularly well as a lone striker in recent weeks/months, and with the fashionable new Premier League 4-3-2-1 formation swelling with popularity, might that be the way to go?
