Friends with the late John Peel, so they say…

The Spoiler’s great buddies at Who Ate All The Pies - or Pies for short - have today gone somewhere to unraveling the brutal conundrum concerning exactly what it is that footballers do once they’ve hung up their scoring boots and match day knickers.

Some, of course, make it in punditry. The likes of Gary “The Velvet Owl” Lineker, Lee Dixon, or Jamie Redknapp - the man behind the latest “Jarhead” trend that has swamped football hair salons.

But what of the rest? The ones who can’t string a sentence together with the haunting eloquence of Martin Keown, or state the glaringly obvious with quite the Patrick Stewart gravitas of Alan Shearer? Well, if they happen to be the ex-Chelsea man, Pat Nevin, then the answer is this: they play indie records in nightclubs.

Apparently, the Scotsman - who has a university degree! - was always considered somewhat different from his team mates, most notably because he dared to prefer the music of the Joy Division to the football staple of The Best of Phil Collins. But Pat, it seems, has had the last laugh.
