David Bentley arrested for drink driving

Tottenham star continues to sabotage his career

David Bentley

David Bentley and his delightfully punchable face found themselves in trouble with the law in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as the Tottenham star was charged with drink driving.

After enjoying a concert by Oasis-AC/DC hybrid Jet in super-trendy Shoreditch, Bentley pointed his £98,000 Porsche 911 Turbo in the direction of his Hertfordshire home. Unfortunately, he was 1.5 times the legal drink driving limit, something that became clear when he smashed into a lamp post near his home at 3am.

A police spokesperson has released a statement:

“He has been charged with a drink driving offence and has been released on bail to return on 28 August. A member of the public called just after 3am to report a single vehicle road traffic collision in Judges Hill, Northaw. A man was arrested at the scene and taken to Hatfield Police Station. This morning David Bentley, 24, has been charged with an offence.”

Bentley has issued a short statement in which he calls the event a personal and professional “wake up call”.

He wasn’t exactly flavour of the month before this incident, and now he’s probably fallen behind Aaron Lennon, the kit man and Sandra Redknapp in the pecking order.

Mark Hughes, snap him up!

Manchester City target West Ham defender, Barcelona’s £25m offer for Cesc Fabregas

The latest transfer gossip, news and damned lies…

Matthew Upson

Matthew Upson to Manchester City

While David Moyes continues to bear hug Joleon Lescott, growling at anyone who comes near him, the Citizens will instead look to the West Ham defender, say The Guardian.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Mark Hughes has also reportedly identified Sylvian Distin as a potential replacement for Richard Dunne. He may not have enjoyed the best of form last season, but shouldn’t they just stick with their captain and four-time player of the year?

Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona
The Times believe the Catalan giants have turned their attentions back to the young Spaniard after failing to secure the services of Javier Mascherano. Apparently, an offer of £25m will be offered. Mathematicians will note that this is nowhere near the £40m rumoured to have been offered a few months ago.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: We are willing to bet a Penguin bar and half a jar of crunhcy peanut butter that Fabregas will

Carlos Tevez changes his mind about wanting more first team football

Argentinean no longer worried about warming the bench

Mark hughes, Carlos Tevez and Garry Cook

At the time of his messy divorce with the Red Devils, Carlos Tevez’s agent Kia Joorabchian claimed his client’s move was motivated primarily by a desire for first team football.

Now that he has received his pay day at dream transfer to Eastlands, however, featuring on the team sheet every week is no longer a priority. Shortlist Magazine discovered this much when asking the wet dog-alike if he feels threatened by the competition to start at his new side:

When you are at a top club with top players you understand that a big squad is needed and you won’t play every game.

This change of tune is likely to raise eyebrows, much like his surprising post-transfer revelation that Alex Ferguson never spoke to him (something we disproved here).

Elsewhere in the interview, Tevez reveals

Man City line up £12m David Bentley bid, Joleon Lescott to hand in transfer request

The latest transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

David Bentley

David Bentley to Manchester City
Obviously impressed by the huge impact he has made at Tottenham, the Citizens are said to be lining up a £12m bid for the punchable winger. The Mirror believe Villa, Everton and Atletico Madrid have also shown an interest in Harry Redknapp’s least favourite human being.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: Spurs clearly don’t want him, and no one would offer more cash than City, so perhaps this isn’t as daft as it sounds.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Tottenham

Stuttgart have had a £15.5m bid accepted for the unwanted Dutchman, but the Daily Mail believe Spurs are still in the running, even though they want to pay in instalments. Because instalments are better than cash up front, right?

The Spoiler
truth-o-meter:
It seems that Madrid want to sell Huntelaar to the Germans, but the player himself would rather play in the Premier League. Seeing as £6m of his fee will automatically be paid to former club Ajax,

Emmanuel Adebayor closes in on Man City move, Sunderland chase James Collins

A further helping of transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City
Mark Hughes has confirmed holding talks with Arsenal over signing the Togolese striker and Sky Sports sources - which proved accurate yesterday - believe he will have a work permit hearing in Manchester tomorrow.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: If the reported £25 million fee is correct then Arsenal couldn’t really turn it down. It will be interesting to see if the majority of the money gets spent on a striker, a holding midfielder or nobody.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar to Spurs
Real Madrid say that talks to sell Huntelaar to Stuttgart are at an “advanced stage” but The Daily Mail fancy Spurs to make an eleventh hour bid.
