Adrian Mutu writes an open letter to Chelsea

Romanian still struggling to pay ridiculous £14.6m fine

Adrian Mutu

Adrian Mutu was sacked by Chelsea in 2004 on account of his cocaine abuse, and was given a seven month ban and a £20,000 fine by the FA. When he signed for Juventus (via Livorno) as a free agent during this mandatory exile period, the Blues demanded £9.6m from the player to compensate for the initial transfer fee.

Mutu soon regretted hiring a lawyer he saw running down the street after an ambulance, as the fine was increased to £14.6m after two appeals to the very same Court of Arbitration for Sport who recently banned Chelsea from transfer activity.

Some might say that the transfer ban helped to restore karmic balance following Chelsea’s lack of compassion towards the Romanian, but the point remains that £14.6m is a penalty that only a handful of footballers could realistically afford to pay. In his latest bid to avoid the angry Russian debt collectors, Mutu has written an open letter to FIFA and his former employers. Sky Sport Italia printed the highlights, which Goal.com roughly translated:

“To Chelsea, the FIFA disciplinary committee and FIFA president Josep Blatter

“I write this letter

The Premiership’s new Ghanaian and Adrian Mutu’s money woes

Tomorrow’s headlines today…

Stephen Appiah

As you have been wondering how Rio Ferdinand found it appropriate to name both his children after an obscure actor, The Spoiler has been looking for the headlines that will grace the newspapers tomorrow. Looks like it’s going to be a slow news day…

Stephen Appiah one step closer to the Premiership
The former Juventus midfielder has confirmed that he is finally fed up at Fenerbahce, and is hoping to terminate his contract with the Turkish club. West Ham and Portsmouth have long been trying to lure the Ghana international to England and will be delighted to hear that Appiah is on the lookout for a new club. The 27 year old may be the perfect addition to West Ham’s lightweight midfield, but the cash strapped club are likely to be reluctant to meet his wage demands, rumoured to be in the region of £70,000 a week.

Mutu to appeal against fine

Sexy druggie Adrian Mutu is set to launch an appeal against his massive £13.5 million fine, to be paid to former employers Chelsea. Boasting a newfound sense of morality, Mutu referred to his punishment as “inhumane” and “unjust”, and has vowed to fight against FIFA insistence that he pays Lampard’s wages for a few months.

Video: France/ Italy and Netherlands/ Romania highlights

French find themselves up baguette creek without a croissant

France/ Italy highlights

After Franck Ribery dropped to the ground in agony, clutching those around him as if he were frantically uttering his final words, the Italians were destined to control last night’s Group B match. Still, France boss Raymond Domenech considered the defeat a ‘beautiful moment’ and found time to propose to his girlfriend live on French TV straight after the final whistle. Maybe he can put his impending payoff from his employers towards the wedding.

Netherlands/ Romania highlights

Despite Adrian Mutu’s attempts at covering every position on the pitch, the Romanians couldn’t break down Holland’s B team.
