David Beckham isn’t the only football prophylactic peddler

Throughout his career, Christian Vieri may have put away plenty of goals, but he put away even more fabulously attractive women. The romancer of Melissa Satta, Elena Santarelli, Elisabetta Canalis, Debora Salvalaggio and Fernanda Lessa has now formally recognised his ladykilling skills by releasing his own brand of condoms.

Bobo and 408-year-old Milan legend Paolo Maldini started the fashion line Sweet Years a few years ago (not to be confused with the Baci e Abbracci label Vieri runs with Buffon’s missus Alena Seredova), and the Akuel Blues Sweet Years Limited Edition johnnies were revealed during a press conference this week.

The new condom brand has got off to a hugely successful start thanks to a bulk order from a Cheshire resident named ‘C. Ronaldo’.

People who like Burnley FC and lovemaking are in for a real treat this weekend, as the club will be giving away free condoms as part of a drive to encourage a responsible attitude to sex.

These are no ordinary condoms, however, they are official Burnley-branded condoms. The Burnley official site does not say if the claret sheaths will have Owen Coyle’s face on them, but it does say:

“Due to the reported rise in STIs, there needs to be a radical and creative approach to ‘normalising’ condom use and we hope that as well as seeing the fun side, supporters will recognise the serious message behind using Burnley FC-branded condoms.”

There are just two conditions for receiving the freebies - fans must be under 25 (presumably the over 25s don’t have sex in Lancashire) and they must complete a chlamydia screening.

I posted a story in January about David Beckham’s appearance on the packaging of China’s best selling condoms, and it’s been doing the internet rounds again this week. It’s worth pointing out not because The Spoiler is so ahead of the game, nor to remind you of my greatest ever headline, but because images of the packaging have emerged.
