Mourinho becomes a doctor

Lisbon university honour The Special One

With a Champions League trophy, two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup, a UEFA Cup, two Portuguese Championships and an impending Serie A title to his name, Jose Mourinho has an enviable CV. The Special One has just added to his endless list of accomplishments with an honorary doctorate from his old university:

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho was awarded an honorary doctorate Monday from Lisbon’s Technical University, where he graduated in physical education and sport more than 20 years ago.

“I’m not sure I deserve this accolade,” Mourinho said. “I’m surprised by it. I’m probably a source of pride for the faculty, but I’ve pursued my career without thinking about such things.”

According to Sports Illustrated, some faculty members opposed the award, saying Mourinho hadn’t achieved enough to receive such a high distinction. If Simon Mayo can get a doctorate from Warwick for harping on about Spurs on Five Live all day, it’s safe to say that Jose has done enough.

Spoiler bonus: The Special One didn’t even bother wearing a tie to the ceremony - check out a picture of him in his robes after the jump…

An interesting fact about Manchester City’s owner

Former Thai PM has a semi-ironic educational past

Thaksin Shinawatra

Thaksin Shinawatra (the gentleman who broke the terms of his bail by attending the Olympics, and who is seeking in asylum in Britain in order to escape the arrest warrant issued by the Thailand Supreme Court) is often referred to as ‘Dr Thaksin Shinawatra’. This is because he received a doctorate from the Sam Houston State University in Texas in 1978. The subject of said doctorate and also his masters degree? Criminal Justice.
