Deadline Day Update
Transfer deadline day rages on at a relatively furious pace…

Nicky Shorey to Portsmouth
Sky Sports News are reporting that the Aston Villa left-back is on his way to Fratton Park for a medical. Shorey will avoid the prospect of Championship football by limiting his move to the South Coast to a season-long loan deal.
The Carlo Cudicini and David James switch-a-roo
Rumours that Jamo will jump ship to join ‘Arry at the Lane have been circulating for a few weeks, but The Daily Mail suggest Portsmouth have rejected a swap deal with Carlo Cudicini. Despite the rebuff, The Times say Mr Redknapp and Mr Levy are currently at Loggerheads over whether they should bring in the 39-year-old shot stopper.
Gennaro Gattuso to Arsenal
Ian Wright’s latest outpouring of wisdom in The Sun sees him arguing the merits of the AC Milan nutter. The pundit says Arsenal need a surrogate Patrick Vieira/ Tony Adams/ big mean person person to stop them getting bullied in the manner of Saturday’s defeat at Old Trafford. This may be true, but Gattuso ain’t going nowhere.

Liberal outlook
Italy manager glad to see the back of ‘foreigner’ Kaka

Marcello Lippi is quite a character. The Italy coach - pictured shirt lifting with Gennaro Gattuso - once claimed there are no gay footballers, and can now add a string of xenophobia to his thoroughly illiberal bow.
When Sky Italia asked about Kaka’s world record move to Real Madrid, the 61-year-old didn’t exactly lament Serie A’s loss:
The more foreigners that leave Italy, the better it is for Italian Calcio.
Granted, Lippi would have a greater selection for his national side if Serie A was devoid of any foreign talent, but of course, it would also make for a much weaker league, with far less revenue-generating potential.
If Lippi was coaching in England, someone would have thrown an egg at him in the street by now.

TRANSFER TALK
Cesc admits receiving an interesting offer from an Italian club

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that a Serie A side attempted to sign him over the summer and admitted that his head was turned by the amount of money that was on offer. He told Sport.es:
”Yes, it’s true. I did have offers from an Italian side which were interesting from an economical point of view. However, nothing really happened after that.”
It has been speculated that AC Milan were the side who made the bid but The Spoiler isn’t convinced

Rotten Eggs
They’re a disgrace, a big revolting disgrace…

Okay, we’ve drooled enough over the Arshavins and the David Villas, now it’s time to load up the claws and get stuck into some massive Euro 2008 flops. These men should think about getting a new day job - especially you, Ronaldo, or whatever your name is! What’s that? It is Ronaldo? Yeah, well…. shut up!
GK Petr Cech (Czech Republic)
His mistakes were costly, the hat looks stupid, and he’s getting more and more grumpy - starting to resemble the world’s most sullen gimp.
DL Paulo Ferreira (Portugal)
Lack of match practice and being played out of position made Ferreira appalling against the Germans. Needs to locate his footballing ability.
DC Lilian Thuram (France)
In fairness, he should never have been there. Too old for the modern speedsters with their shiny trainers and spikey hairstyles. Someone needs to tell him to stop.

Tittle tattle

Once again, our well-trained internet ferret has been thrashing around in cyberspace collating information. Today, the big transfer rumbles sound like this:
Gennaro Gattuso to Tottenham
An Italian newspaper has reported that Gattuso may wish to leave AC Milan in the summer and that Manchester United and Tottenham are leading an £8 million charge for the fiery little midfielder. Being that he talks like a Scot, this could be Sir Alex’s for the nabbing, but the whisper is that Spurs are leading the way.
Zoltan Gera to Wigan
West Brom’s Hungarian playmaker has AGAIN been linked with a move to the JJB, but Wigan’s fans are bored to death of that one – it’s so 2005.

Arsenal High Jinks
Mathieu’s teammates find cringe-worthy method of likening him to his AC Milan counterpart

At the start of this season, Mathieu Flamini earned himself a new nickname among his team-mates - Flattuso. He earned the moniker because his playing style is similar to AC Milan’s midfield enforcer Gennaro Gattuso.
Fans will get the chance to directly compare the two players tonight, and big-brained Arsene believes we will see Flattuso at his best:
“Yes he had that name. Flamini has a similar style to Gattuso because of his size and the fact he’s always up for it.
