Emmanuel Adebayor closes in on Man City move, Sunderland chase James Collins

A further helping of transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies

Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City
Mark Hughes has confirmed holding talks with Arsenal over signing the Togolese striker and Sky Sports sources - which proved accurate yesterday - believe he will have a work permit hearing in Manchester tomorrow.

The Spoiler truth-o-meter: If the reported £25 million fee is correct then Arsenal couldn’t really turn it down. It will be interesting to see if the majority of the money gets spent on a striker, a holding midfielder or nobody.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar to Spurs
Real Madrid say that talks to sell Huntelaar to Stuttgart are at an “advanced stage” but The Daily Mail fancy Spurs to make an eleventh hour bid.

Events at West Ham imply Newcastle are in grave danger

Fiasco at Upton Park reminds Mike Ashley he had better find a buyer quick

newcastle.jpg

This could be a watershed week for Premier League football, as clubs start to deal with the consquences of global economic catastrophe. Leading the suffering is West Ham, £142 million in debt according to the Deloitte Annual Review of Football Finance 2008, and whose owner Bjogolfur Gudmundsson has lost his wallet in the meltdown. One Sunday paper claimed that West Ham were just a month away from administration if they fail to find a buyer.

Who knew things were quite so grim when on the last weekend of August, just before the transfer window closed on the Monday, Alan Curbishley walked out? He claimed it was because the club’s owners had gone against his wishes and sold George McCartney to Sunderland. At the time, it just looked like a shabby piece of business, with the club feebly claiming

Vote: Who should be West Ham’s next manager?

Curbs lives up to the bookies expectations

Alan Curbishley

After nearly two years of loyal service as manager at Upton Park, Llewellyn Charles Curbishley has today parted company with the club who launched his playing career back in the seventies.

Much like Kevin Keegan, he is said to have been unhappy with the clubs transfer policy, and was tipped over the edge by the eleventh hour sale of George Paul Ringo McCartney to Sunderland on Monday evening.

So who should step into his shoes? Votes and comments below please, folks….

Alan Curbishley resigns as West Ham manager

Sam Allardyce 4/1 favourite to take over

alan curbishley

Alan Curbishley has stolen Kevin Keegan’s thunder and won the sack race by walking out of West Ham after getting fed-up with players being sold over his head, most notably George McCartney on deadline day.

Reports claim that Curbishley believes the club’s board have been undermining him and that he has only been keeping the manager’s seat in the dugout warm until Croatia boss Slaven Bilic is available.

The former Charlton boss failed to win over a vocal section of the West Ham support but a poll held on the forum of West Ham fansite Knees Up Mother Brown in the last 24 hours saw Curbishley garner a 87% approval rating.

Sam Allardyce is 4/1 favourite with Sky Bet to take over, while Bilic is close behind at 5/1.

Transfer Hysteria: West Ham, Everton and Larsson news

Even more deadline day movers and shakers…

George McCartney

While a certain stroppy Bulgarian decides which side of Manchester to play for, there’s plenty of action going down elsewhere….

George McCartney to Sunderland
West Ham’s best outfield player last season George McCartney is reportedly having a medical with former club Sunderland. If the move is completed it will mean the Hammers continuing to play captain Lucas Neill out of position or having winger Luis Boa Morte fill the void. It is also a clear indication that every player at the club has a price, so Hammers fans with Green or Ashton on the back of their replica shirts may have cause for concern.

Saha and Nash to Everton
Louis Saha has finally completed

Transfer talk: Crouch to Chelsea?

spoiler-crouch.jpg

As the season winds up to a thrilling finale, the more speculative fans have already started on 2008/2009 - who will be where, and why? From trawling the depths of the messageboards and forums, here’s what The Spoiler has stumbled across today:

Luca Toni - Bayern Munich to West Ham
West Ham’s incoming technical director Gianluca Nani discovered Toni at Bayern Munich, which is causing a frezied wave of dillusion in East London. Might the best striker in Europe trade in Champions League football with Bayern Munich for mid-table mediocrity in rainy old England?

Shay Given - Newcastle to Arsenal
Lehmann is almost sixty-years-old, Almunia isn’t entirely convincing, so might Wenger be driven to actually spend some money? The whisper is that Given could finally stop bothering to try and win things at Newcastle.

David Bentley - Blackburn to Aston Villa

Speculation is growing that Bentley will move to one of the big four this summer, but Villa fans are hopeful that their young talented team will be more tempting than the haunting prospect of becoming the next Jermaine Pennant.
