Over the past two weeks, the finest WAGs of Europe have been busying themselves in a fierce transatlantic battle. Some nails were chipped, several upmarket boutiques went without custom and the barmen at Chinawhites have never felt so unwanted, but I am pleased to report that our best supporting ladies have come home victorious.
Over 40,000 votes were cast here and at On205th, and the ladies from the old continent were deemed hotter by 55 per cent of the voting public. Gemma Atkinson and her foxy ilk won seven of ten rounds with their yankee counterparts, and as a result, the Americans have agreed to revoke their independence from Great Britain, and they will pass a bill banning Cristiano Ronaldo from poaching prostitutes sunbathing by hotel swimming pools in California.
‘Tis a glorious day for one and all.
Relive all the sexy action and cast a belated vote right here.
Spoiler bonus: Check out galleries for each of the victorious ten below…
After cruising ahead 4-0 in the US vs European WAG war, our flag-waving friends at On205th have somehow managed to avoid a complete whitewash by clawing back a round: over the weekend, Carmella DeCesare narrowly defeated our very lovely Tanya Robinson.
Today, however, Europe will land right back on its sexy feet, as the little-known girlfriend of baseball player Hunter Pence (stupid name) takes on the hottest WAG from the hottest WAG nation on the planet, Italy…

Italy continues to shine as the WAG capital of the world
It seems that certain Italian television shows are a hotbed of WAG activity. Variety show Striscia la Notizia (‘Strip the News’) has given the world Elena Barolo, Melissa Satta and Giorgia Palmas, while Carabinieri (which seems to be the Italian version of The Bill) gave us the stupendously good looking Martina Colombari. Today’s WAG, Elisabetta Canalis is held in particularly high esteem, as she has had the honour of starring in both shows.
She has been romantically linked with Christian Vieri (who has also steamrollered Satta and Elena Santarelli), Didier Drogba and most recently Parma’s Brazilian striker Reginaldo.
Former Miss Italy enjoys footballers and constant nakedness
I have not actually seen the agreement a model must sign to become Miss Italy, but I can only assume there is a clause stipulating a compulsory relationship with a footballer. The pageant show has already given us Martina Colombari, Francesca Chillemi, Vincenza Cacace and Elisabetta Gregoraci, and now 1999 winner and nudity enthusiast Francesca Lodo joins their ranks. She has been engaged to Inter’s Javier Zanetti (despite the fact that she met his current wife in 1992) and she has also enjoyed the company of Francesco Coco - a self-professed ‘drugged-up gay who lives in nightclubs’ who has also steamrollered former WOTD Manuela Arcuri.
Today’s WAG of the Day is another graduate of crazy Italian television show Striscia la notizia (‘Strip the News’) - a programme which has also blessed us with footballer eye candy including Melissa Satta and my favorutie WAG of the Day, Giorgia Palmas. Twenty-five-year-old Italian Elena Barola has stepped out with Filippo Inzaghi (who also imposed huge bank balance and status wonderful personality on Aída Yéspica) and more recently, she has been seen on the arm of Torino striker Roberto Stellone.
The WAG of the Day archive is brimming with Italian talent, a fine example being yesterday’s afternoon delight Giorgia Palmas. Mrs Davide Bombardini was a ‘Veline’ or ‘desk dancer’ on hit Italian show Striscia la notizia (‘Strip the News’), who passed the flirtatious mantle onto Melissa Satta, the current beau of Christian Vieri. (Thanks to Spoiler fan Luther Blissett Projectfor bringing her to my attention, and for alluding to a group of obscure radical activists.)
As the well-travelled among you will know, every single Italian woman in her twenties looks like this. And as if the gents in the boot-shaped nation aren’t treated to enough aesthetic pleasure when they leave their homes, they get to see twenty-five-year-old Giorgia Palmas in racy magazine shoots and on Striscia la notizia, the Italian equivalent of The Daily Show that satirises government corruption. Presumably, it is a show that never runs out of material.
