In Italy during the 1990s, showgirl, actress and nude model Valeria Marini was an even bigger deal than pizza and political corruption. Combined.

The immensely popular blonde, nicknamed “Valeriona nazionale”, could probably be compared to Jordan (although Valeria is almost certainly less annoying). Much like her UK equivalent, she has also caught the attention of a few footballers - her greatest conquest to date is Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero.

Iker Casillas wins the hottie lottery for the second time

Until recently, Iker Casillas was lucky enough to be the partner of stupendously good looking model Eva Gonzalez. Unfortunately, they recently split up, however, our besties at Kickette inform us that the Real Madrid shot stopper has rebounded with an even hotter Spanish model - Ariadne Artiles. She has just divorced superbike rider Fonsi Nieto, and was rumoured to have spent New Years eve with the La Liga goalie.

Italy continues to shine as the WAG capital of the world

It seems that certain Italian television shows are a hotbed of WAG activity. Variety show Striscia la Notizia (‘Strip the News’) has given the world Elena Barolo, Melissa Satta and Giorgia Palmas, while Carabinieri (which seems to be the Italian version of The Bill) gave us the stupendously good looking Martina Colombari. Today’s WAG, Elisabetta Canalis is held in particularly high esteem, as she has had the honour of starring in both shows.

She has been romantically linked with Christian Vieri (who has also steamrollered Satta and Elena Santarelli), Didier Drogba and most recently Parma’s Brazilian striker Reginaldo.

Euro nations send their finest ladies to provide support

Our hermanos at Machochip have found a rather fantastic blog called euro2008girls.com. Several times a day, they upload snaps taken from Swissaustria of the tournament’s most aesthetically-pleasing patriots. What a jolly splendid idea.
