Manchester Utd chief exec sets a steep price for star player
If Real Madrid are to land long-term transfer target Cristiano Ronaldo, they will have to break the world transfer record for a second time this month, according to Marca.
Today’s edition of the Spanish paper says Los Blancos have already had contact with Manchester Utd chief executive David Gill, who set the price for the Portuguese star at a whopping €96m.
Gill, Marca understands, is said to be completely unwilling to lower this price, despite the negotiation attempts of Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Barcelona-based paper AS corroborate the story, but they believe the transfer figure to be a paltry €89m. Apparently, this will be paid in bite-sized instalments, and the deal will go through before July 30th, so as to avoid the €30m compensation clause set out in Ronaldo’s pre-contract agreement with disgraced former president Ramon Calderon.
As also say that C-Ron’s shit-stirring agent Jorge Mendes will make a killing from the deal, taking home a commission in the region of €8.7m.
This week, Cristiano Ronaldo told journalists at the FIFA World Player of the Year Gala that he “has been learning” Spanish, and today some further hints of a summer move to Madrid have been dropped.
Ronaldo likes to stick his “CR7″ moniker on everything - his Portuguese boutique, the seats of his cars, his WAGs earrings - but he would almost certainly not be able to wear number 7 in Spain, as that belongs to Real Madrid legend Raul. The Sun say the Manchester Utd star has now taken the precautionary measure of trademarking “CR9″, perhaps implying he has earmarked Javier Saviola’s shirt number.
The trademark, however, was actually registered by C-Ron’s agent shit-stirring Jorge Mendes, which means the whole thing could just be another rouse designed to destabilise his position at Manchester Utd…
Agent suggests winger still wants out of Manchester
After the painfully botched Real Madrid summer transfer saga and subsequent (and thoroughly unconvincing) statement of commitment to Manchester Utd, reports in the Italian press suggest Cristiano Ronaldo now wants a move to Inter Milan.
C-Ron’s shit-stirring agent Jorge Mendes - who also looks after The Special One - has told Inter his client still wants to leave Manchester. Ronaldo is also said to be “fascinated” by the prospect of working with Mourinho.
C-Ron after £170k a week after showing dog-like allegiance to club
According to The Daily Mirror, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is in the process of negotiating the Portuguese an additional £50,000 on his weekly £120,000 pay packet, which would make him the best paid player in the Premiership (Robinho only gets a measly £160,000 a week).
Ronaldo is just 18 months into a contract that is supposed to keep him at Old Trafford until 2012, but Mendes insists the star needs further remuneration as a reward for his “loyalty”. Put differently, Ronaldo should be rewarded for the fact that Manchester Utd strongly resisted the Real Madrid advances, and that Los Blancos are now no longer interested in him. A little convoluted, non?
The new deal - which appears far more like a golden-handcuffed deterrent than a reward - would need to be confirmed by 2010, when the Portuguese man-o’-sex can snake off to another club using the Webster ruling.
So, should Fergie and co reward the tricky winger for actively attempting to leave sticking with the Red Devils, or should they spend the extra £50,000 a week (£2.6m a year!) on someone who might actually show some devotion to his club? Votes and comments below, por favor…
