The Spoiler

Chelsea return 5,000 Champions League tickets

Blues fans not keen on witnessing the biggest game in their history

Champions League Final

Thinking of trotting off to the Luzhniki Stadium next week for the Champions league final? You may want to give it a few days, as the ticket prices are likely to tumble right down to face value.

A Spoiler informant bought tickets for the final through official UEFA channels before the semi-finals were decided. As a Liverpool fan, said informant no longer wanted to trek all the way behind the Iron Curtain, so yesterday he rang a ticket agency to try to sell the tickets on. He was told that he would only get face value (around £100) for them, as Chelsea had returned 5,000 tickets on Monday morning and demand was pretty low.

I rang a few ticket agencies this morning, and the best offer

Thinking of going to Moscow? Read this first

The struggle to join Sir John Major at the UCL final rages on

If you are planning to head behind the Iron Curtain for the May 21 Champions League final, it seems you will need to earn the equivalent of the GDP of a medium-sized African nation to stand a chance of securing transportation.

The last BA seats to Moscow were sold at £900 each way, and it appears the only option now is to charter a private jet. Four Chelsea and eight Manchester Utd fans have already chartered a 14-seater G4 private jet (perhaps two of them like to put their feet up) using this company. If you can bear the thought of leaving your gated community and hand-built sports car collection behind, seats on these VIP aircraft are starting at £4,000. So, along with a £6,000 ticket, the minimum damage for taking in ninety minutes of football is £10,000. Sound good? Why not have your personal assistant get a quote right here.

Vote: Who will win the Champions League?

England’s two best teams travel 1600 miles in search of neutral venue

Champions League Final

Some facts about the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow: It holds nearly 85,000 people, it used to be called the ‘Central Lenin Stadium’ and it has hosted concerts by hair metal gods such as Skid Row, Mötley Crüe and Scorpions. On May 21, however, those lucky enough (read: ‘rich enough’) to acquire a visa will head to the world’s most expensive city, in order to see Manchester Utd and Chelsea compete for the most prestigious piece of silverware on the continent. The bookies put United ever-so-slightly ahead, but based on last week’s match, the Red Devils would probably rather face any other team in the world right now.

So who do you think will win it? Votes and comments below, please.

Vote: Who will meet in the Champions League final?

Decrepit old Russian stadium awaits two world class sides

The Luzhniki Stadium

Last night’s goalless affair didn’t do too much damage to Manchester Utd’s assault on the Champions League - they are still 9/5 favourites to walk away with the trophy. Liverpool have the longest odds (11/2) as walking away from Stamford Bridge with a victory is less likely than Ledley King walking away from a nightclub with his dignity intact.

But who will meet in the final? Manchester Utd/ Chelsea seems like the obvious choice, but Liverpool and Barca aren’t teams that one can easily bet against. Votes and comments below, please.
