This Italian model has no time for the beautiful game

In the WAG hierarchy, it doesn’t get much better than bagging a World Cup winner, and that’s exactly what Italian model/ TV presenter Marta Cecchetto has achieved - she met Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni nine years ago at a nightclub, when the striker was with lowly Lodigiani. Thirty-year-old Marta has been a model for sixteen years (she has represented countless high end brands and appeared on the cover of plenty of snooty fashion magzines) and she has since branched into television work.

Due to a trend started by good ol’ George Best in the sixties, the most popular occupation of your typical WAG of the Day appears to be ‘beauty queen’: Miss Italy 2003 Francesca Chillemi joins Aída Yéspica, Vincenza Cacace, Elisabetta Gregoraci and Giorgia Palmas in the realm of competitive goodlookingness. Francesca’s efforts have been rewarded not only with a crown and scepter, but also the affections of Cagliari Calcio’s Vincenzo Marruocco and more recently Roma’s sass-mouthed midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

South American WAG’s beauty is scandalous in Italy

Somehow, The Spoiler’s WAG of the Day feature has managed to bypass Venezuelan beauty queen Aída Yéspica on 88 separate occasions, but today we’re finally making amends. The former Miss Amazonas moved to Italy in 2003, where her constant nude modelling shoots (do a Google image search of her name, I dare you) caught the attention of Milan’s Pippo Inzaghi. She then moved onto Roma’s Matteo Ferrari, but is best known in the boot shaped nation for causing a political scandal. Mischief-making ex Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi reportedly said ‘With you I’d go anywhere,’ to Aída, causing his wife to demand an apology in a letter to Italy’s largest newspaper La Repubblica.

Italy’s greatest export since pizza and corruption

It seems that absolutely nothing can stop an Italian sports star landing one of his nation’s infinite amount of gorgeous models as a WAG. Just ask former AC Milan and Fiorentina star Giuseppe Pancaro - his goatee-clad face, thinning hair and distinct lack of silverware has not stopped him shacking up with the very lovely Vincenza Cacace.

Former Miss Spain could be on her way to West London

If you believe this photo, Chelsea’s £50m summer transfer target Sergio Ramos likes to wear Hulk Hogan-esque bandanas with surf shorts that are just low enough to expose his ‘pubic tattoo’. In certain circles, he may be labelled a ‘douchebag’ for presenting himself in public in this manner, but at least he offsets his troubling look by keeping former Miss Spain Elisabeth Reyes as company.

When Andriy Shevchenko’s lengthy stay at AC Milan came to an end, the ageing striker had no preference over joining Manchester Utd or Chelsea. Roman Abramovich’s (now ex-) wife Irina, however, aided the decision making process by squiring his American model wife Kristen Pazik around the glitzy side of London town. Soon after, Sheva agreed the move to West London, but insisted the choice had nothing to do with his wife’s wishes. He told Gazetta Sport at the time:

“My wife has nothing to do with this, we decided together for the best interests of our family.”I don’t speak English, my wife does not speak Ukrainian - the only language we have in common at the moment is Italian. The only way to be able to teach our children our love that we have for them is the English language.”

And with this puzzling logic (surely the mutually understood Italian language would have been a better choice for the kids), the Premier League gained another WAG and Chelsea’s bench got a little bit warmer.

Former Crystal Palace and current Torino FC striker Nicola Ventola may have a girl’s name and a distinct lack of international appearances on his CV (bar a visit to Sydney for the 2000 summer games), but he has done mighty well in the WAG department. Depending on who you believe, he may or may not be married to Brazilian model Kartika Luyet, but one thing is for certain - Ventola is the father of their four-year-old son Kelian.

With his rock-hard abs, Scandinavian bone structure and immaculate underwear collection, the last thing Freddie Ljunberg expects is to have his WAG stolen from beneath him. Yet that’s exactly what happened when Sunderland midfielder Kieran Richardson cuckolded away 20-year-old model Anara Atanes. She said:

“Freddie’s such a gentleman. He’s sexy and really knows how to turn a girl on. But Kieran’s my little rough diamond. He’s a bad boy, that’s why I like him. We didn’t see much of New York, but a lot of our hotel bedroom. I know it’s naughty, both at the same time, but I’m a naughty girl.”

Last Tuesday, The Spoiler’s WAG of the Day was the impossibly-good looking Alessia Fabiani, the better half of Brescia’s Alessio Tacchinardi. One week later, and the femme du jour is also an Italian named Alessia, whose husband also happens to play for the same Serie B outfit. And if by sheer coincidence, she has also earned a living following the exact same career path as every other Italian WAG (dancer on ropey TV show, nudie calendar, a few shoddy B Movies etc). Unless I have become confused by similar sounding names and circumstances, today’s WAG is Alessia Merz, the wife of striker Fabio Bazzani.

With the exception of David Beckham, Landon Donovan is easily the most famous LA Galaxy employee. Well, if you discount Ruud Gullit, that is. And Abel Xavier. Anyway, in light of his semi-famous status, Donovan has secured himself a semi-famous wife in the form of actress and model Bianca Kajlich. Not only is she very pretty, but she has a tattoo, meaning she’s all edgy and stuff.
