Portuguese star “can’t afford” the Manchester band

Yesterday, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that he is a huge Oasis fan, and even went as far as saying the Manchester City-supporting rockers were even better than the Beatles.

Ronny would like to see the band play in concert, but is evidently not too keen on sharing an arena with people who are not fabulously wealthy, famous or prostitutes. Hence, he offered the band tickets to El Clásico in exchange for a ‘private concert’.

At last night’s iTunes Festival gig at the Roundhouse, Oasis head honcho Noel Gallagher was delighted to hear that C-Ron’s iPod contains more than Phil Collins and Sade:

Much like Cristiano Ronaldo, Noel and Liam Gallagher aren’t famed for their modesty. Yet the swaggering Oasis stars would happily admit that their band is immensely inferior to their biggest influence and primary source of material, The Beatles.

The Real Madrid winger and pop aficionado, however, believes the Manchester band are actually better than the Fab Four:

“Liverpool have The Beatles and Manchester have Oasis. I think we (Manchester) have the better band.

“I have all the Oasis albums [Even Standing on the Shoulder of Giants? Seriously? - Ed.] but my favourite track by far is Champagne Supernova. It’s an absolute classic.

“One thing I will miss about Manchester is Oasis.

“I will be honest, I didn’t even know who they were when I first arrived in Manchester, but you can’t live there long without knowing who they are.

“The lads in the dressing room loved them, especially the English boys.

“When I came to England I was into my techno, but I think Oasis are one of my favourite bands now.”

The Spoiler is a big Oasis fan, but to suggest they are better than The Beatles is a bit like saying a light bulb is better than the sun, or that an MK Dons supporter is better than a fan of a proper team that wasn’t unlawfully pillaged from elsewhere. Perhaps the tricky winger - who has already proved his exceptional taste in music - is merely trying to wind up Merseyside.

Never one to keep his opinions to himself, Noel Gallagher has told Football365 why his beloved Manchester City should cease their pursuit of England’s brave captain:

“I don’t like John Terry and I never have. He’s got funny eyes and he’s a cry baby.

“He’s also a Cockney and he’d absolutely be coming just for the money.”

As much as The Spoiler appreciates Gallagher’s rapier wit, having “funny eyes” isn’t a great reason not to bring in a world class player, and they already have a cockney staff member in the form of Shaun Wright-Phillips. Perhaps the Oasis guitarist just wants to keep JT’s mum as far away a spossible from the executive boxes at Eastlands - one can never be too careful safeguarding one’s possessions.

Oasis frontman inflicts his charming personality on Spurs fans

Lacking the rapier wit of his older brother Noel, Liam Gallagher found an alternative way to communicate with football fans on Saturday.

The Oasis star and his untalented sibling Paul found themselves in an executive box at White Hart Lane to watch their beloved Manchester City, where they were subjected to abuse from the home supporters. “You’re just a shit Chas & Dave,” sang the Spurs fans below the box.

When Manchester City scored their 65th minute equaliser, Gallagher was quick to retaliate with some rather unfriendly hand gestures. At that point, a member of Spurs security staff stepped in:

A Tottenham source said: “Fans started getting a bit heated so a security official went to have a word with him. It was precautionary. He wasn’t chucked out and carried on watching from his box.”

Understandably, Gallagher wasn’t quite as piqued when Tottenham scored their 86th minute winner.

Oasis star and rakish comedian hit the airwaves

Russell Brand made his triumphant return to radio in a one-off talkSPORT special with Noel Gallagher last night. Highlights included a Daily Mail reader-angering phone call to Jonathan Ross, and a call to the White House in order to confirm Barack Obama’s support of West Ham.

The duo also spoke to Steve Lomas, who judged whether Brand’s club West Ham are bigger than Gallagher’s beloved Manchester City, as well as revealing something that John Moncur would have preferred to have been kept quiet.

Other highlights included Noel Gallagher analysing the lyrics of “Fog On The Tyne” and the Oasis guitarist’s anecdote about Wayne Rooney.

Manchester City fan isn’t bitter over Brazilian

Shortly after the January transfer window closed on Monday night, Oasis played a concert at the Datchforum in Milan. Consistently outspoken band patriarch Noel Gallagher could have used he opportunity to lambast AC Milan hero Kaka for not joining his beloved Citizens, but the Mancunian chose to take the high road.

Before playing ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, Gallagher dedicated the song to “Signor Kaka”, making the opening refrain “Don’t you know you might find/ A better place to play” seem all the more pertinent.

The night before the gig, the Britrock legend heaped a huge lump of hindsight on the botched Kaka transfer when speaking to Controcampo:

“Kaka? To me it seemed like pure folly from the outset. Maybe in three years time he will regret not joining Manchester City.”

While on tour in Canadialand, Oasis star Noel Gallagher gave Radio Five Live a few minutes to express his support of City’s Arabian investors, and to deliver a dig at the red side of Manchester:

“I always kind of knew that 40 years of loyalty would be repaid somehow and I always knew that a day would come when we stagger everyone in football. It’ll be nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Manchester United fan buys is going into our transfer kitty.”
