The Spoiler

Premier League sides cure international break boredom with a training ground match

West Ham fans miss their first win over Chelsea in six years

The Spoiler can’t stand the monotony of international breaks where nothing ever happens in the week building up to the game and it looks like Chelsea and West Ham feel the same way.

Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke took a group of players who aren’t off gallivanting with their national teams - including Luis Boa Morte, Kieron Dyer and Savio - to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground to have a kickaround with the likes of Alex, Florent Malouda and Ricardo Quaresma.

The Hammers were 4-2 victors thanks largely to youngster Junior Stanislas but any sense of achievement in beating the Blues for the first time since 2003 was tempered by the fact Ray Wilkins was managing the opposition.

Will Ricardo Quaresma give Chelsea more problems?

Winger capable of superb skill and crushing disappointment

Ricardo Quaresma

New Chelsea loaner Ricardo Quaresma is a great player. A product of the Sporting youth system that gave the world Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, his pace, skill and brilliant swervey shooting technique caught the eye of Frank Rijkaard in 2003. The 25-year-old winger, however, failed to set La Liga alight, and made only ten starts for Barcelona. During Euro 2004, he showed early signs of being a pain in the arse by insisting he would never play for the Spanish giants again, and eventually engineered himself a return to Portugal.

After a successful stint at FC Porto, Quaresma caught the eye of The Special One, who paid €18.6m plus Portuguese youngster Pele to bring him to Internazionale. Mourinho doesn’t sign players lightly, but even he has grown tired of Quaresma’s lack of “tactical discipline”. He has scored one goal in eleven appearances in Italy, and now finds himself loaned out after less than a season.

To summarise, Quaresmo has been a hit in Portugal, but has failed to do anything in two of Europe’s biggest leagues, and has a record of petulance on and off the field.

So, has Big Phil made a good choice bringing him in, or has he given himself a huge headache? Let us know what you think below.

Spoiler bonus: If given regular playing opportunities, Quaresma is capable of great things - check out a compilation after the jump…

Have Liverpool reached an agreement for David Villa?

The very latest scurrilous deadline day rumours…

A (very feint) whisper on the Spoiler rumour vine suggests that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Valencia for David Villa.

A Torres/ Villa strike duo would be fantastic, but we’ll soon see if this one has any legs.

Meanwhile, several sources are reporting that Chelsea are looking to hijack the reported Ricardo Quaresma to Tottenham deal.

Dos Santos to Portsmouth, Ricardo Quaresma to Spurs, Jo to Everton

The very latest scurrilous deadline day rumours…

Ricardo Quaresma

Three hours to go in the transfer window and no ridiculous Manchester City rumours? Come one Garry Cook, pull your finger out!

Tottenham have been linked to Marco Materazzi and Adriano in the last few weeks, but Sky Sports News say the north Londoners are about to swap Jermaine Jenas for Inter’s Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma. Harry’s least favourite person with the name David Bentley may also be on his way to Italy.

Unhappy Charles Insomnia is currently having a medical at Wigan, and will escape from Kinnear’s clutches later today.

As part of the Tottenham-Portsmouth exchange network, Spurs have accepted a bid from the south coast team for Giovani Dos Santos.

It’s no secret that Jo has been a bit rubbish at Manchester City, but he will get another chance to sign at Everton, where he will be on loan for the remainder of the season.

Blackburn wanted £25m for Roque Santa Cruz but Manchester City only bid £20m. Blackburn insists their star player will not move today.
