Like moths to a flame, Czech footballers once again show their working girl weakness
The shit really seems to be hitting the fan in Czech football at the moment. National manager of only eight games Petr Rada was sacked yesterday, following a 2-1 defeat to neighbouring Slovakia that has put their World Cup Qualification plans into jeopardy.
“Because of the current environment in the Federation and the media, I don’t want to represent the country anymore,” said Rada, clearly not realising that he did not have a say in the matter.
Rada’s ungracious exit was not helped by the extracurricular activities of his players. Following the Slovakia defeat, six Czech players were photographed entering a restaurant by Czech tabloid Blesk. Shortly after, a taxi pulled up, containing three ladies of the night. The party were snapped leaving the restaurant at 6.30 the following morning.
The shamed footballers are Atletico Madrid defender Tomas Ujfalusi, West Ham’s Radoslav Kovac, Reading midfielder Marek Matejovsky, Martin Fenin (Eintracht Frankfurt), Vaclav Sverkos (Sochaux) and former Liverpool star Milan Baros. All six have been
New strip is as plain as Capello’s brand of football
After Bayern Munich ruined the conventional kit launch with their sexy interpretative dance routine, England decided to reveal their latest strip on the pitch this weekend before steamrollering Slovakia. Anyone with an internet connection had already seen leaked pictures of the old school effort, but the modest plain white was shocking enough for Five Live’s Alan Green to label it “grotesque”. Which, of course, it isn’t.
We at The Spoiler thoroughly approve of the new design, but we might wait until Mike Ashley’s shop slashes the £39.99 price tag before purchasing.
Will you be getting one?

Spoiler bonus: The kit is available for purchase on Wednesday. Pre-order it here
Some fans feared that England would become even more boring to watch with an Italian in charge, but there has already been a 5-1, a 4-1 and a 3-0. Here’s why Saturday’s friendly with the Slovaks should also feature over 2.5 goals, which is 5/6 with Sky Bet:
» Seven consecutive Slovakia matches have contained at least three goals, while four of the last five have had over 3.5, which is available at 7/4 with Paddy Power.
» Eight of England’s last nine home games have featured more than 2.5 goals.
» England and Slovakia met twice in Euro 2004 Qualifying and both meetings finished 2-1 in England’s favour - 11.0 on Betfair.
Any other business
» England have scored precisely two goals in four of their last five home games and they haven’t failed to score in ten matches at the new Wembley.
» The last two England games at Wembley have been level at half-time. Ladbrokes offer 7/2 on the two teams being tied at the interval and England winning at full-time.
Perennially injured defender makes Mr Capello’s cut
Everton’s Leighton Baines and Manchester Utd’s Ben Foster made the cut in Fabio’s squad for the England friendly against Slovakia on Saturday and World Cup qualifier against the Ukraine next Wednesday, but the biggest shock came in the inclusion of Ledley King.
1. There are already five other centre-backs in the squad whereas there is only one recognised right-back. Therefore it would have made more sense to include another full-back like Luke Young.
2. Ledley King is supposedly incapable of playing two matches in a week, which means he won’t be much use at the World Cup.
3. Harry Redknapp said that King doesn’t even train between Monday and Friday at Spurs because of his problems. So either there won’t be much chance for the coaches to assess King in training, or he will get heavily involved in training and risk an injury that could jeopardise Spurs’ European hopes.
4. There is a perfectly fit and in-form Spurs centre-back who has been ignored in favour of King - Jonathan Woodgate.
5. England perform better when Matthew Upson plays, meaning he should be comfortably established as Capello’s third-choice. The West Ham defender’s England win percentage is 77% compared to King’s 58%*.
*We may or may not have been scrapping the barrel a bit for reason number five.
Slovakia’s only greatest contribution to western civilisation
It’s difficult to fathom how The Spoiler has managed to go 160 days without mentioning fabulously attractive Slovak model Adriana Karembeu (née Sklenaříková), but we are finally making up for it today. Adriana is best known for causing traffic accidents with her Wonderbra billboard campaign, and her 49-inch legs have landed her a spot in the Guinness book of World Records.
As her surname suggests, ten years ago she married former Middlesbrough and French defensive midfielder Christian Karembeu.
Daniela, semi finalist at the Australian Open not so long ago, is a tall skinny woman from Slovakia. Her distinguishing features include a two-handed backhand (pretty standard now) and the ability to look stern and unlovable on the court, but then surprisingly alluring when photographed off it. Some might put that down to the use of black and white in the pictures, others might not.
